18k Mile Maintenance on EVO

I have done regular oil changes and I changed the plugs at 15k. I really haven't done anything else to maintain the EVO. I just hit 18k and I think I need to do driveline fluids. Any other things I should do? Any recommendations for what fluid to use?

Thanks.
Joe

Simple suggestion...if you own the car, they gave you the maintence manual...Try looking there

Also be careful that mitsu doesn't void warranty for not following schedule. Usually though, most cars do fluid change aroud 45,000 for driveline , diff etc.

Sometimes there are 2 diff manuals, one specifically for maintenance schedule, also, there is a diff between normal driving, and severe driving listed.

If you just drive normal i.e. 7/10 and ,maybe 10/10 a couple of times a week, I would change around 45,000. If you race a lot on tracks, or drag race a lot then maybe cut it to about 24,000 miles. Drag racing is what really stresses the fluids in the diff, and road racing heats up the tranny., so if you go to the track only like twice a year, just stick to 45,000.

just check the fluid first, look at the color, and see if fluid dirty, or has that "burnt" smell, or if there is any metal.i'm pretty sure evo has synthetic tranny fluid. Mosts manual transmisions don't fail cause of fluid though, it's not as important as with an automatic which also has to deal w/ tourque converter adding heat. But only you will really know if it needs the change.

Here brother, got this info from a well informed and well educated EVO owner. He is also one of our fellow EvoM Member's. He has figured this all out from trial and error, while utilizing laboratories to test breakdown information. Let's all thank zmeli for finding out this very useful, GOLDEN information on how to keep our EVO's lasting LONG and STRONG. Thanks Rick.

Transmission Fluid
GM Part #: 12346190 which is Castrol Syntorq LT 75W-85 GL-4

Engine Oil
76 Pure Synthetic 5W-40

Transfer Case and Differential Fluids
Dia Queen LSD 90WT which can be purchased from Mitsu parts. If the Parts Department has no idea what you're talking about, ask another employee or the manager. If those guys have no clue what you're talking about, they should find a new job and you should search for it online or go to another dealership.

Stock Oil Filter's do the job just fine.

I got that down about right, right Rick? Am I missing anything? Thanks again for this info. My EVO's gonna live longer than I am.

-Robert
