my opinion on the mr
I also feel like my EVO needs another gear.. I would like to test drive an MR and see how the 6th gear feels like and whether it would benefit me in anyway including the so called front LSD. BTW anyone know where our EVO's LSD is located at? rear/middle part?
I bet for the current folks who are able to enjoy their evos, the 6 speed and front LSD will be available and should bolt in. The only change I can give any concern to would be some electrical connections maybe on the tranny.. The axles maybe different? But the driveline isn't changing much, nor the chassis, so I would suspect the 6 speed and front LSD should be a doable swap. Maybe someone will offer a MR wannabe upgrade setup, clutch, tranny, and diff.. It would probably save you a grand or two over buying a new MR and taking any big hit on depreciation.
Time will tell though.. Ain't it great to have options though! The more options the better.

I don't believe that it would be cost effective to do a tranny swap plus LSD,and ACD unless you found a wrecked MR. The reason I'm saying this is because just the regular 5 speed for the Evo is 3,000 and then add an LSD for probably 1,000 and then add all of the electrical connections plus labor you would be over 5,000. I don't believe that i'm gonna loose more than 5,000 or 6,000 for my Evolution. I owe 26,000 that would be like me selling my Evo for 20 or 21 thousand.I know I can get more for my car than that and would rather trade up to a new vehicle with no miles and have an MR with full warranty.
Derek
I got my EVO for 27k. The MR will be close to 35k, so that will be an $8k price differential. Damn.. that's definitely priced out of my range.
The only thing I wish the 03 EVOs came with is a front LSD. But since quaife is coming out w/ one, I'm just going to get that. It seems simple enough to install since the front LSD is in our transfer case. MikeW@RRE says it can be installed w/ the transfer case still in the car, so that makes it even more cost effective. That'll be less cost for labor or less work for the DIYers.

If the hit to swap for a MR is $8k and you can get a 6 speed tranny for $4500 ( shop around they'll probably be less ) and the Quaife is $1500, you can save $2k and have your front LSD (better then the MR I'm sure ) and the 6 speed.

I see what your saying about the price differential that is very true but as i posted earlier in this thread My Evo is not running up to par and i have spent over a thousand on it and they can't pinpoint the problem so i'm basically done dumping money into my car. Thats why i want to start over and transfer all of my Buschur stuff
I know i will probably loose like 4 to 5 thou., but think that its in my personal best interest . goodluck with your evo and just be careful with who you choose to work on it .Derek

You are correct Mister2zx3 but it still won't be an MR
P.S. like i said in an earlier post if my Evo was not F--ked up There would be no way in hell I would be doing this.

The parts that you mentioned that are messed up sounds like they can be fixed for not that much money. And MUCH MUCH cheaper than $4-5k. Don’t you need to fix it to sell the car anyway? I wish most of us could just get another car to “start over”, but you live and learn. I’ve done enough hack jobs on my 2 DSMs to know what not to do on my EVO. My EVO is my “starting over” car.
I don’t see the big deal w/ the 6-spd tranny. I think over 85% of the people here won’t even utilize the ACD from just street driving. I wouldn’t pay all that extra money just to say I have it and be cool. I will pay money for a front LSD though, as that makes a huge difference that can be enjoyed in everyday driving situations.

I would keep my Evo. Even though I do autox my car often, I don't track it often enough to really warrant the purchase of a MR. The extra cog and tighter ratios are nice, but it's not something I'd be willing to lose a couple of $K over. The ACD/LSD are also items that I may or may not notice.
I'm tempted to say that the tarmac mode may not be much different than our current setup - but I could be very wrong. I just figure I won't be doing any "spirited driving" in either snow or gravel, if you get my drift. The LSD I would probably see benefits in autox, but I think that the LSD will be a simple solution soon enough, whether it's from Quaife, or from Mitsu themselves.
I'm sort of a guy that has to have the newest and coolest thing (can we say computers? hmmm.... I want those Athlon64's) but this is just too big of a loss to cut to trade in for the MR - and I also don't think I have the ability to really push this car to the limit to really tell the difference w/ or w/o the ACD.
Just my .02.

Simple comme bonjour.
