Strange and funny thing happened this morning...

I was sitting in the left turn lane waiting for the green arrow when a huge 18 wheeler truck zoomed passed me. As the truck passed, my idle dipped ever so slightly from about 950 RPM to 500RPM and back up again. It did not stall but the dip in RPM's was noticeable even though it was short.

I wonder what causes this - the sensitive knock sensor or the turbulence in the air...???

your ECU sensed knock causing it to pull timing. try this: open you EVO hood and drop it half way through your RPM will go a bit low and the sound of the car will change.

That is hilarious!!! I guess Mitsu is really freaked out about knock with the turbocharged engine. They seem to really want to prevent any sort of possible hint of detonation but that's a bit TOO sensitive though IMHO...

When the truck went by it was pulling the air away from the car. This caused the air to be pulled away from the intake and caused the motor to work hard to hold idle. This caused the dip in the RPM's.

It’s the same thing when you shut your hood and the Motor is running. The hood, as it closes, forces are into the intake which causes the idle to pick up just a little.

At least that’s what I think.

I could see that happening BUT it has never happened to my other cars and they have all had intakes as well? Plus the intake is facing to the left and the truck passed me on the right...

Semis have enough electronics and radio equipment on board it coulda f*cked with your ignition just enough to stutter the idle for a second.

This happens on the drag tracks too. I don't care too much for those V8's rumbling near me while we're waiting. lol.

Knock sensor is very sensitive on this car. If you open your hood and close it, your RPM will drop down. That's how sensitive the knock sensor is on EVos.

I was told this by a very good evo tuner.
