British Evo VIII news

From official press release today:
Early British blossom for Evo VIII next Spring
2002-11-25 08:19 (New York)

British Mitsubishi enthusiasts can look forward to a triple boost next Spring when they will be offered the new Evo VIII one year earlier than European customers, at a price significantly below the current legendary Evo VII, and with dramatically improved availability.

The next incarnation of Mitsubishi's 'hero car', with re sculpted, more aggressive front end styling, a six-speed, close-ratio gearbox and revised interior is scheduled to make its UK and European debut at the Autosport International Racing Car Show on January 9 at the NEC.

As an additional thank you to loyal UK Evo fans the Colt Car Company will supply 285-horsepower 'full house' versions of the saloon super-car as standard. Although the price will not be finalised until nearer the launch date, the company is aiming at least £2,000 less than the current £29,995 model.

By securing a potential annual allocation of 900 Evo VIII's for drivers in Britain, the strongest Evo market outside Germany, Mitsubishi Motors in the UK is determined to keep the high-performance icon 'in house' and eliminat problems for customers inherent in buying through grey importers.

As with the Evo VII an ultra high-performance FQ package, with enhanced engine breathing through exhaust tuning, will be available to boost power to over 300-horsepower.
January is going to be a good month...

I don't know why, but something in that article leads me to believe that their car will be a lot different than the one we recieve.
I wish the article went into more detail of what types of new changes to expect other than styling, interior, and the 6-speed.
I like the idea of it being so much cheaper, I assume that is good news for us in the states.

I agree, you really can't base what they are getting to what we might be getting. Europe always gets the cool cars, they get the Type R's and we don't is a prime example.

So I'm not getting too worked up over that article.

If they can offer a full-on Evo VIII for less than £27,995 then why can't they offer something close to it in the US for under $32,000? And the answer is not exchange rates.

I think this is good news for us.

I think it sux for us US buyers because that press release although vauge, still goes against many of the rumors that have been going on. After reading it I'm now back to thinking that has one up on all of us, and it will not be until they decide to tell us what we are getting before we can truely state how good or bad the car we're getting is. I just wish they would hurry up and give us some God damn numbers but I think we can surely assume that they will release official pics before numbers

Well guys I really do hope the same version will be available in the US. In any case, If anyone wants I can try and check out that show at the NEC, if i'm not wrong it's in Birmingham and not far from where i'm at, and take pictures if allowed.

The fact that this release date is so close to the end of the info embargo on the US Evolution, heavily suggests that they will be the same car. This finally suggests that we might be getting the real thing. The UK would unquestionably get the Ralliart version of the Evo, and if this article says that the Ralliart version is ready for January, that suggests very good things.

I'd rather put my hopes into conclusions drawn like this than someone's uncle's friend's brother's cousin's dog's grandmother's next-door neighbor who happens to work for Mitsubishi and says he has the details.

If thats what we get, rock.

You'll also notice that the press release says the car "is scheduled to make its UK and European debut at the Autosport International Racing Car Show on January 9 at the NEC." Note that they didn't say world debut. So obviously the world debut would have to come before that. Press days begin in LA on Jan 3rd and in Detroit on Jan 5th.

Or maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part...

It's important to remember that RalliArt UK is one of the main contributors and tuning offices for and that they have considerable input into EVO production.
Also RalliArt UK specifically tunes EVO's for the UK market. There are likely going to be differences between their version and our U.S. version.
