Yeh, I just saw that post.
I'll TRY to keep my ignorance to a minimal, but didn't the all wheel drive Audis dominate a few traditionally RWD race series in the early 90s? And isn't the Evo one of the best handling cars around, able to keep up with RWD Ferraris and Porsches?

A lot of AWD cars understeer. RWD high powered cars usually oversteer. I agree that the latter is more fun (I hate understeer!), but I don't think you can say one is better than the other.

I think the point is this; the Evo is a great AWD car, with minimal understeer in stock form; there are cheaper ways to get great RWD handling than modifying your Evo to covert from one to the other on the fly. In my estimation, you would have to engineer a disconnecting transfer case (like my SUV has) that could switch on the fly under race conditions to get what you want.

A used Formula Vee would be cheaper, in my humble opinion.

Good luck pursuing your dream.

i believe that due to their engine/drivetrain layout, subarus should be 'easier' to convert to rwd than the evo.

If you really want a evo that is RWD go for the EVO 6 and be done with it. Same engine and all the good stuff with little changes. Most drastic changes are styling and the RWD. IMporting will cost ya. AS for a RWD Evo 8 it would be good as a option. I think there would be more flexibility and people could buy RWD for drifting as everyone else has stated.

I read a post on the Subaru forum before about converting an AWD Subie to a rear bias subie by swapping a rear bias (20/80) center differetial.

I am always dreaming of having a 20/80 or 30/70 split on the EVO, that would make the EVO an unbeatable car anywhere!

AWD traction is great for accelerate hard in the corner, but AWD takes too much (power loss) for top speed run (look at how an M3 or G35 catching up on 100+ mph). And the tendency of understeer on most of the AWD sucks.

I think there should be a way to get it done. Hope someone would make a 20/80 split Center Differential for EVO!

i may be way off base, but the evo6 was NOT rwd. unless there's a special edition that i'm not aware of....

Stupidity.
If your goal is to do burnouts and donuts then save yourself the money and driveline hassles and go buy a Rustang 5.0

There are soo many fast RWD cars out there, why mess with a DSM or evo?
The whole reason why people buy dsm's and evo's is because they are AWD and have traction, once you take the traction away they are worth ****.

maybe the guy wants something different... a sedan that can do that in this price range is non-existent.

not that i'd ever want or do that.
