how much HP increase from a catback and airfilter?

What kind of horsepower gains can I expect if I were to install a cat back exhaust and air filter without tuning the ECU. As far as hp gains it should be roughly the same which ever brand I select but I am getting HKS for both. Just using HKS for an example. Will I feel any power differences compared to stock?

Nothing from the air filter and around 8-10 for the catback.

But believe it or not, all the Evos react different to mods.

Intake and turbo back w/out a cat - 15-20whp gain. Tuned you can see up to a 40-45 whp increase.

Just intake and catback with stock cat - 10 whp gain. Tuned 30-32 whp gain.

Most ECU flashing can get you at least 20 whp alone. Dynoflash mail-in-flash guarantees 20 whp for 200 bucks!

There is alot of power lost in the downpipe and stock cat!!!!!!! If you can replace those at the same time you will get soo much more HP. You can get a test pipe for like $80.00! get the Ultimate racing.

If it were me and lets say I had a budget enough like you to get an HKS catback and HKS RS intake ( i assume that's the one you want).

#1. I would skip the intake and spend the money on a full HKS turbo back, which includes downpipe and get the cat-delete. I would also get a K&N air filter $65.00. This will be about the same money and make MUCH more power! You will not get any extra power really with an intake with early or mild mods.

#2. The next step for only $300.00 more would be an Hallman MBC $100.00, set it at 21 PSI and leave it. Then get a mail-in-flash from whoever for about $200.00.

Total investment #1 =$1,100 - $1,200 in parts - gain 35 whp.
Total investment #2 =$300 = gain 25 whp

In total with HKS turbo back with HKS DP, UR test pipe, KN drop-in air filter, Hallman MBC, and mail-in-flash cost wil be only about $1400.00 (w/o labor) and you will gain 50whp!!!! You'll be putting down 285-290whp for $1400.00!!!! sick....

This IMHO is the best $1500.00 combo!

I put the K&N high flow filter panel in and I noticed the car breathes easier... but not really noticeable power gains... I have the cat-back coming in this week so if you're still interested, i'll let you know. I won't have any specific numbers tho

K&N air filter should be much cheaper than a HKS one correct? Unless its a air intake? I am a bit confused

A K&N drop-in filter is around $40 or $50. Much cheaper than a HKS intake.

The K&N air filter is just a drop-in replacement for your stock air filter and uses the factory intake box. This will cost about $50-60. I am not exaclty sure which HKS intake you are refering to as there are two avail for our car. The HKS Megaflow which basically just ditches the stock box and is an open element filter, and the HKS Racing Suction which includes the open element filter and a polished intake pipe that does directly into your turbo.

The Racing Suction (RS) intake is approx $300-$350. This is a great intake but has been shown time and time again that is does not make any extra power with little or no other mods done to the car. In some cases it has been tested and lost power. The intake really starts to shine when you are deeper into modding and need the extra air flow to compliment your mods.

All I was suggesting is that for now just leave the intake alone, or at most (for now) buy the drop-in KN filter (I have one I'll sell you by the way). Then use that money saved to buy a Downpipe and a cat-delete pipe instead because you will make so much more power just focusing on the WHOLE exhaust early on in your modding.

How much WHP you have with the mods you have listed? Got any pics of your car with 19inch rims and how is the ride quality with the rims and Tanabe springs?

HKS drop in filter is $35. It's open element filter that you can't reuse it again tho.

I have about 350whp and 345 tq right now. I will be going to the dyno to confirm soon. Just have to drive to Orlando, I was at the only dyno in Tampa getting my TT tune and the reaking Dyno broke, so I just got a street tune.

The 19 inch rims did hurt ride quality some and even though they are not that much heavier than stock pound for pound, I know the increased overall diamter will hurt my 1/4 times.

Here is a pic..
