Gave up on my Evo MR dreams...
Well yes, here I was a week ago hoping to sneak an MR past my wife - but if you read the title you already know it didn't work...
We went and test-drove an MR and everything other posters have said about the powertrain improvements is true: better shifting, smoother engine (by miles), absolutely no tranny whine (this is all compared to an 03 tested about 3-4 weeks ago). The ride is still firm, but maybe not as bouncy as before (credit the new Bilsteins). That being said, I wouldn't rate the overall suspension change at more than 10%, more like 5% sounds right.
But it was still the manic, hard-riding, sneeze-bam-you're-in-the-next-lane steering, non-linear power delivery driving machine. I would have gone for it, but the wife would not put up with the above and extra disadvantages: mediocre service, questionable resale value, questionable brand future, increased maintenance requirements, high insurance etc.
On the other hand, she allowed me to increase my mod budget for the current car, which means sways and brakes should be mine next year in time for the track season.
As to the rest of you who may be sitting on the fence, if you have no family entaglements or similar hangups, do yourselves a favor and test drive one. It's an amazing machine, I only wish they had these 5-6 years ago. I may yet pick one up in 2-3 years and turn it into a track car.
And yeah - if you live in the Metro DC area and want an under-MSRP deal, PM me and I'll get you a contact info. White and Red on the lot with Grey available upon request. And no, I don't get a commission...

You'll be sorry
.
My Evo buying experience went like this:
Me: Honey, I'll be late tonight; going out with the guys.
12 hours later...
Me: Remember I said I was going out with the guys?
Wife: Yes
Me: I lied
