Should I buy an EVO 8?

This is my first post on this site.
Im getting close to buying an Evo 8 with under 10k miles on it. I wanted to hear from some people on the reliability of their evos. How would you say the car holds up in terms of normal wear and tear? I have heard of some people having problems with the tranny. Is this common? I have also heard that Mitsubishi isn't good about honoring the warrantee when the car is modded. Is there anything else that I should look into when buying a used evo? Im upgrading from a 2002 honda civic si. I'm also looking at either an 03 or 04 audi a4 1.8t. Also, is the AWD good in bad weather?

Thanks Everyone.

My tranny holds and no problem. its the clutch that u will eventually need to change when u start modding the car. The AWD is good in winter provided u put winter tires on it, any dealer will not warranty the parts that u modified.

unless you're lookin' for luxury car that you don't have to pay very much attention to while driving because they're so refined.

Audi's AWD is made for ride quality, comfort and safety.
The EVO's AWD is made for Motorsports (i.e. going fast).
Not comparable at all. You want a fast car on the track - buy an EVO.
You want a car to bring you children to school and have a luxury ride to winter-
holidays - buy the Audi.

A Civic Si driver will prefer the Evo usually. Believe me, I had a CTR before.

well, i think pretty much most companies will void your warranty when you put mods on it. hell, even acura tried voiding some guys warranty for having only a "MODIFIED SHIFT KNOB" . but i cant really tell you much about the evo, cuz i dont have one yet. but from what ive been reading about, the car seems pretty reliable as long as you make it reliable. as in, dont abuse it like most people do. i think the tranny problem happens when your launching it a lot. but what do i know just take good care of it and it will take good care of you. the evo is a great car . but its your choice, good luck

The audi s4 is nice ride 6spd less bumpy, evo rides harder but faster. It depends on what you want. I prefer handling and speed, if you get an evo forget the warrenty, just mod it and drive the **** out of it. Keep it easy on launches and you will be fine with the clutch (29k) stock clutch. I do get on it usually until it starts to roll. When I get a new clutch and turbo upgrade it will be different. Everyone will want to race you in the evo, and so what beat them if you may. It is a differant ride that the Si (former car was a turbo rsx-type s)

Look for prior mods: Look at the bolt on the Valve cover and the intake, if they look like they were taken off then get a compression test done. (you should do this anyway no matter how much it costs)Go to you mitsubishi dealer and run the vin there, see what comes up as far as TC, clutch replacements. These are not always signs of wear, I have not taken my car to the dealer since in bought it, I do my own oil changes every 2000 miles, and have kept up on normal fluids. I have been pushing 333whp and have had no problems. Be smart when driving and launching unless you do not care. See if the car has a stock clutch or aftermarket like act or exede. If so, ( at least if I had one of those I would launch if differe3ntly then if stock) .

Other irdes to look at: G35 coupe, great car, STI another great car (had one for 3 days).
S2000 another nice car that can be modded to get great numbers.

I love MY evo and would not buy a different car (I have 2 others in the garage). Find a tuner near you to tune the car after you make you pathway on mods (Busher and urbo trix are great, I am sure I left somneones shop out, shiv, ect. Please do some redaing on here and research about any car you may buy, and what you expect out of a car. The Evo is the most fun car I have had or ridden in ( its my daily driver!). You can do a lot with the evo and tailor it to your likeing. Guys sorry for the bad spelling (worked until 1a, and partied until now. Holly sh** IT IS 7 AM.I need to go to bed,Anyway, just about any car you buy (if you mod it cams ect stand alone ecu will VOID the warrenty unless you get the parts from the dealer like a neon turbo and ge the stagged upgrades, maybe trd on a toyota, or a computech SC for an acura. To go fast and mod a car most likely somthing WILL break! be prepared no matter what you buy (If you mod it like most people who buy these cars) that something will break, I have 29k on my evo and I drive it hard, Iam not launching it to beat a rsx-type s or a cobra, I enjoy my speed under my choice. Do not get me wrong, I have raced ( at the track) and have beaten car that thought they would beat me. So what there is always a faster car out there that will beat you (may be very few). Anyway Good luck in your Evo endeaver. I would buy another one with out hinking twice about it. I have owned many car (both old school and new school) the Evo is the best car for the money(at least what I payed for mine). Sorry I have rambled,

As far as winter you can count on getting new tires (the advans are not for snow at all)
Do you plan on modding the car? If so check out some of the pathways ( there are a few) that people have taken, also call a shop (as stated earlier TT/ Busher/Vishnu ect) and see how much it will cost to get where you want to be. Iam happy with my car and it is a daily driver ( more mods to come) runs great, drive it daily, I am sure I can add more to it and maintain the daily driver ability of the car and hopefully hit 11 seconds next spring.

Just my 2 cents!Sorry for the rambling I am tired

You will not have to change everything if you know how to drive well. Most Evo owner here complains about their clutch cuz they're too stupid and can't drive stick. Well, it's their first stick shifter car I think.
