2005 MR HIDS vs GSR non-HIDS

Hi All,
Anyone compared the outward appearance of these two lights? Obviously they look different when illuminated, but how similar do they look when off? How about with the hoods opened? Can you see a difference between these two?
Cheers,

Unless you get the sun leather sound package. That's like a 3k option.

'05 Evo's don't have std HID's?! gay...
Anyway, comparing gas-charge lighting vs halogen IS day & night.
However, that doesn't mean halogen lighting is awful. It also depends on the manufacturer, (Stanley makes the xenon projectors for the evo, but I dunno about the non-HID applications) the lenses (clear, ribbed or soft) & the reflectors used in the projectors.

For instance, those Valeo H7 halogen projectors used in A6 give awesome lightings. They give out just as much (or even better) light output than most of the aftermarket HID kits (used in reflector applications).

Couple of options you can switch from halogen to HID:
1. Purchase an aftermarket HID kit of the original bulb size (H1/H3/H7/H9,HB2,HB3,HB4,HB5, etc) - $300~$500

2. If it's an H7 application, you can purchase:
i) H7-to-D2S adaptors
ii) OEM D2S bulbs
iii) ballasts (stock Evo's use Mitsubishi ballasts, but others will do just fine. eg. Hella, Bosch/AL, Matsu****a, Philips, etc)
iv) ignitors *optional* (some ballasts use integrated ignitors, while other use seperate ignitors. eg. Hella Gen4 uses seperate ignitors; Hella Gen3 uses integrated-ignitors ballasts)
This would be a much better alternative compared to (1). - ~$300ish**

3) The last and the best way would be to get a pair of Evo xenon projectors (ebay, junkyard, etc). Open up the lights, and change the projectors (aka. retrofitting). Also, you'll still need the D2S bulbs, ballasts as well.
This way you don't only get the ultimate OEM HID lighting experience, (just so you know, Evo Stanley xenon projectors are one of hottest projectors out there now.) you'll also get the beautiful cutoff band ^^ - $400~$500+** & a bit more hassle.

**depends very much on where you get your components.
Hope this helps.

Interesting post! Thanks for the info, even though I already have HID's in my '03... still interesting. What do you mean by the "Evo Stanley projectors are one of the hottest projectors out there now?" And what is cutoff band?

The HID projectors used in the Evo's are made by Stanley, which is also the company that makes projectors for the ones used in Acura TSX; and the co-manufacturer of the projectors used in Honda S2000 (Kioto/Stanley).
The Evo projectors are one of the most wanted projectors within the HID-retrofiting community for its colorful prettyful beautiful sexy cutoff band and the very very very clear lenses, hence great illumination.
While others may prefer sharper cutoff line, smaller cutoff band and wider beam pattern, these people go with the S2000 projectors.

Pix illustration:
1. red = cutoff band, yellow = cutoff line (Evo)
2. Evo projectors, i'm sure most of u r familiar with this light pattern.
3. S2000 beam pattern. Notice the dull, yet much sharper cutoff, and wider light output.
