Yeah, if I'm going on a long road trip I'll take it with me, along with my floor jack. Hell of a lot safer than the dopey scissor-jack they give you with the car.

Aside from that, the spare tire just sits in my garage.

While removing the spare (and whatever tools) will reduce some weight, you're removing it from the rear of the car which will only make the weight distribution of the car more front-biased (this isn't necessarily what you want). Secondly, wouldn't you feel really stupid if you had a flat and had to call a tow truck because you were 5 miles away from home w/o a spare? The only time I run w/o the spare is when I'm doing road course events where the spare is close by. Otherwise I doubt it's worth the weight reduction. You'll get better performance and a lot more weight reduction if you get a turbo back

if you have 18's on the car, you shouldnt use the stock spare anyways. it can destroy the drivetrain because of the different diameter wheels

I went on a diet and lost mine... Ok.. the spare is light and a piece of junk anyway, and that sissors jack is bad as mentioned. You can always get on your cell phone to get a buddy to help you if you get a flat around town, they will love to do it just so they can laugh at you but what the heck. I have not had a flat in the last 100,000 miles when did you last have one?. If you want to be lighter without any real hassle, run your car with three or four gallons of fuel. I wouldn't worry about disturbing the weight distribution the car weighs over 3200 lbs.

I got AAA service so I don't need that POS tire back there. Sides my trunk full of JL subs wouldn't let me get to it anyway so by taking it out it offset the amount of weight my subs added probably cut it in half by the time you wiegh the jack the tools the tires the clamps etc.

I took mine out along with the mat since it's no longer supported by the tire. I like having the extra room in the trunk.

I had mine out since I got the car. I've gotten enough nails in my car since then, but never a pop.

just leave it in there, its a few pounds, you probably won't notice the differance and when you do get a flat you will thank us for leaving it in there

Wink formula to use

Here is a good formula you can use:

100lb = shaves off 0.1 - 0.2 sec of your time (ballpark figure)

so taking it out might not matter...

WHere did you get that formula? In my case I took it out because of cornering...i think it's better without the spare. I am also looking at getting a lighter battery.
