Test Drove The Mr
i call bs because it's the MR. But about the racing part..it's TRUE!!! My friend went to gwinnett place honda to buy a new 03 s2k. but since the 04's just came out the salesman tried to get him to buy the 04 but my friend ended up getting the 03. i also told the salesman that i was interested but didn't know if i should pick the 03 or 04. so at that time i went with the saleman in the 04 and my friend followed, couple days later after buying his 03, well they raced and the salesman miss shift twice, over revved it, and it only had double digit miles. he ran it up to 110ish before saying, "i shouldn't be do this....blah blah this is why you should get the 04." but the truth is yes they do race to try to get you to buy the damn car.
i don't know about all the rest of you and where you live, but where i live in pennsylvania my mitsubishi dealership WILL NOT UNDER AND CIRCUMSTANCE let any customer test drive an evo or even an mr ULESS they put a $500 deposit down and you can only test drive one or the other and not 2 unless you put another $500 deposit.
how about anyone else where they live????

I thought I'm the only one who can walk on water....dang it! life isn't fair!
i didn't think the vortex generator was all that great when i saw it in pictures, but seeing it in real life made me jealous that i didn't have one. btw, there is a decent difference between the '03 and '05, i dunno about the '04... well, i know as far as acceleration contests from a roll.

Evowille,
As you can see, 95% of the people in this forum don't believe you. I had hard time test driving the MR but at least I was very serious about the purchase and that was after they confirmed my income and credit history report, the end result is that I have one parked in my garage.
Anyway, I find very hard to believe that they let you drive not one but 2 Mr's. I also find hard to belive that the salesman raced you, come on man, they are not encourage to do that, the cars are very new and it gives a very bad image to the dealer to race brand new cars. Would you buy a brand new MR that a salesman is driving as if it was a stolen car?
You also mentioned that your car feels faster. Well, I am not going to bull**** here, almost everyone here drives a EVO and we all know that the MR and the regular EVO are very close in acceleration but perhaps the MR would be maybe 1 or 2 tenths faster because of the close gear ratio, stronger clutch and a better shifter(teflon coated cables) but in reality I would say that is a tie however the Road and track magazine first tested the MR obtaining a 4.3s 0-60 and a 12.9@107.8mph 1/4 mile
The $7000 price difference, no way Jose. If you look at www.mitsubishimotor.com the price difference from the regular EVO is $4300 instead you get:
6 speed close gear ratio
BBS Forged aluminium rims
Bilstein shocks which retails for $2000
Traction control
Vortex generator $230
sport meter kit $464
MR floor mats $75
wheel locks $75
Aluminium shif knob $114
Carbon Fiber parking brake handle
Aluminium pedals
Teflon coated cables
HID lights
Last but not least the Mr that you drove was not break -in properly, if you buy car magazines every month you will see that they show road test in cars initially with about 600-700 miles then with 30000 or 40000 and all the cars are faster after the 30000-40000 miles.
Jonduke,
You said that in a road course a MR was slowing you down? well, I can dig that but remember every driver is different, there are some better drivers than others, perhaps the owner of that MR in front of you was not very familiar with the car or you were simply a better skilled driver , do you know what I mean?
As per other comments about the five speed being more reliable or whatever, well, it is the matter of choice, I know that the gears are shorter in the track but you will also finish the 1/4 mile in 4th gear on a stock EVO or MR eitherway. Driving in town the MR takes the advantage for the bbeter redesigned turbo spool matched with the close gear ratio.
That is my .50c

I know man. Think about it, his car was the bomb and the MR was crap compare to his car. Then he beat the salesman 3 times..
Everyone in this forum knows better. The MR was driven by the salesman and the car did not have the break in, I mean I have a MR and I say that the Regular EVO or the RS are basiclly equal in performance but I still bring the fact that the MR was in the break in period and that a salesman was driving it.
My salesman just got his license 4 month ago and he did not know that the car was a turbo 4 cylinder, I actually had to explain him of all the little gadgets of the EVO in general

I couldn't believe it but he was absolutely convinced that the Evo could beat an old Camaro. Needless to say I smoked him on top end and he had to hold up his end of the deal. Things like this do happen sometimes, hard as it is to believe.
Oh Yeah!!! I went to the Dodge dealer to test drive the new caravan. I told the dealer " hey man !, if your v6 powered caravan can beat my Evo I'll buy it rihgt on the spot."
So then me and the salesman raced all over the highway like 3 times in front of a state tropper station and I whooped the @!#!$ out of him. Plus the fact Id lose the money on a trade with my Evo I decided to keep my car.
On the way back I passed a Lamborghini dealer and told the sales guy that I'll buy the new Mercielago ( i spelled it wrong , too early in the morning for me.) If he could beat my Evo so we dragged raced in the parking lot right in front of his dealer manager I whopped his *** too!!!!! He drove 2 Lambos against me. I thougt to myself $250,000 price difference was'nt worth it.
Note: This story is utter B.S. just like the post from EVO Wille.
