worst case senario his finance company doesnt find the car and they will just charge it off (which goes on your credit )and pursue legal action. like metaphysical said that will include garnishment of wages and also if the state allows it, place liens against property he currently owns (which i doubt judging from the notion that started this post) or will in the future own. and as soon as he tried to register it somewhere else the repo man will come knocking. i work for an auto finance company. we normally dont repo cars untl 90 days past due so there are things that can be worked out if there hasn't been a payment made in ~70 days or even more.

Chances are he didn't put much into it. He wouldn't be so willing to lose to default if he had.

Technically, your friend can sell the car but its best to pay off the car with the money then to keep it. That way his credit wont be ruined.

And besides, he has connections with registration and all that DMV crap
if he has a house why doesnt he refi the house and pay off the evo, that way interest for the evo will be tax deductible

my bad...i misread it. seriously, call the finance company. they are always willing to work with you if you're willing to work with them. i went thru the same crap when i got laid off and went 120+ without making a payment, but i called every month and they were very lenient about it
