How hot does the Exhaust Manifold Heatsheild get? < 1500 degrees?

I painted my Exhaust manifold heat shield with High temp engine paint which is rated up to 1200 degrees farenheit.... will this be ample enough headroom?

I dont want to go through having to take it off while its hot becuase the paint starts to melt.

On second look, the paint is rated for 1500 degrees, not 1200... amazing how that works....

Sounds like this paint will be right on the money

thanks bro.

No I did the same with mine with a 1200 degree BBQ paint and it still came off. I eventually said screw it and bought the polished Cusco(lowest priced one) heat shield and now I never have to worry about rust or the paint coming off again. I highly recommend it and it does spruce up the engine bay.

I hate the look of every aftermarket heatshield I have seen.

I just want the OEM header shield painted black... looks alot better than an aftermarket manifold shield IMO.

Most primers will not be able to handle the heat from the manifold. Just use hi-temp paint.

The heat sheild will see <1000°f. The air gap between the manifold and the sheild knocks about 600° off the EGT temps. BBQ paint works great, just use a couple of coats. We do use it at my shop all the time with great results.

Hardware store = good

Rust-o-leum or Dupli-Color, both are good. Even used Dupli-Color hi-temp engine enamel with good luck.
