2005 Evo Tuner Shootout Discussion

EDIT: Also, the 1-day format should be a lot better, it just needs to run as on schedule as possible. KK, you should update your signature with the new event link.
Is 1 day between SEMA and this event really enough? I imagine most competitors will want a track day or two the weekend before with the same track/configuration to do testing.

1. California Speedway roadcourse
2. Big Track at Willow Springs
3. Sears Point
4. Thunderhill
5. Laguna Seca
6. Buttonwillow
7. Spring Mtn.
I will not list Streets of Willow at all. It is my least favorite track, too slow for an EVO shootout. We need someplace for these beasts to RUN!!!

Some "less known" shops showed up and ran some decently fast times for their modifications. There should be a huge field for this event after the successful inaugural event.

Spring Mtn. is nice to fly into if someone else is trailering your car for you. I have to drive my EVO from L.A. But Spring Mtn. is still closer to SoCal than T-hill, Laguna or Sears Pt. And it is cheaper to rent and more available than any of the CA tracks except Streets (which would be a horrible choice to return to this year for the EVO shootout). RacerFactory.com treats Spring Mtn. as their home base. We should talk to Rich Barker if we are considering Spring Mtn. for the shootout. For those that haven't driven it (I have driven 4 HPDE days there), it is kinda like a cross between Buttonwillow and Streets.

I don't hate Spring Mtn. I like it. I spent two weekends there with RacerFactory last year and had a great time. It is about as "technical" a track as I care to drive, but it is longer and has more straights than Streets of Willow.
The great thing about a weekend there is that it is in Pahrump Nevada, 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas. You stay at the Pahrump Nugget Hotel Casino, and can drive all day, and play craps and blackjack all night.
Getting there isn't that bad. You take I-15 to Baker (and eat lunch at the Bun Boy), and then take a deserted 2-lane hiway the last 80 miles, at 100 mph (no cops in the middle of nowhere).

Yup, I'd agree with all of that. I haven't driven it in an Evo, just an SVT Focus, but I liked it fine right up until when I broke...
Does not sound like too many folks want california speedway.
Of course, being a norcal guy, I would prefer T-hill, Laguna, or Reno-Fernley. But next choices would be buttonwillow, big willow, or Spring Mountain.
