Question for people who went from an 03 EVO to an 05 EVO...

I am thinking about getting rid of my 03 EVO for an 05. Just want some impressions from former 03 EVO owners on the 05.

Does ACD really make THAT much of a difference?
Is the small HP/TQ jump worth it?
How is it without HIDs? (my biggest complaint)

Swap your HIDs from the 03 to the 05 if you miss them

dave.....did you figure out how much $ on it will cost you to move up? probably $8k? trade yours in for $22k (or so) and maybe get them down to $30k on the new one?

I have no idea how many miles you have, so maybe the $22k is high?

probably not worth $8-10k of diff...... i decided to put coilovers and 18" volks on mine vs trading up to a 05..... i only have 15k miles on mine.

If you can stomach the loss then go for it. The 5 speed shifts much smoother with the improvments. The bigger turbo is a good foundation to build on and the ACD and front LSD are worth the money if you drive the car fast.

If I had a few thousand dollar I would definately trade my 03 for an 05. they claim only 6hp and 13ft-lbs. extra on the 05's. Yet, they are dynoing on average 20whp more then an 03-04. Go check out some post by dyno4mance. The tranny is suppose to be free of the decelaration noises. lsd up front is
I've just decided to wait and see if the Evo 9 is gonna make it hear anytime in 05. I've only got 5k miles on my 03. After seeing the pictures of it on here and on the newest issue of sport compact car. I've gotta have it.

Don't trade it in. You're almost done paying for it man it is not worth taking the lost for a few extra items. Continue to enjoy your car and wait for the EVO IX.

Traded mine in and i'll do it all over again. I love the improved ride and the improved top end pull on my MR. As for diffs it understeers less. I dont' know if it's from the ACD or the front LSD but the ACD is nice in the snow. I can feel the power moving from the back to front.

If you've drove a STi before that is what the 05's feels like. The stock 05's feel like a turbo back exhaust with a piggyback torque wise.

I definitely would not trade it in....I could get more through a private sell.

I just wish there was a definite date for the EVO IX

Based on the new sport compact article the current MR is basically the Evo IX with different bumpers and a bump in power. It's probably the best bet if you can't wait another year. Then again you never know because the Evo IX could have AYC if you care for that

dont trade it in, economically wise it doesnt make any sense. Why suffer by spending the extra 8-10 g's when it is practically the same exact car. Wait until the IX comes out if your itching to get a new one.

Would that then make the EVO IX GSR $35k?

I have no idea. I'd bet it'll probably start at 30k and add options or trip level or something? With evos it usually gets better every year except from the evo 6.5 to evo 7 hence the model change. You can't really go wrong if you waited for the IX. The evo X is due with another platform change so we never know what to expect. I'm sure the evo IX will have most of the little bugs worked out with the cedia platform and probably the best choice if you could wait unit fall 05?

With Japan uplifted the 280ps this evo may have over 300 ponies stock which will be nice
