Tein S Tech self-install?

Anyone have a link to a write up on the tein s tech install on an evo? I am receiving them tomorrow and plan to install it myself. Only tools im guessin i will need are the proper size sockets, a wrench, and something to hold the car up. Do the tein-stechs need a spring compressor? Any links to write ups or detailed instructions would be great. Thanks!

here you go dude...this is for the RSR....but springs are springs......

make sure you get a spring compressor...or you'll have to do it the old fashion way and pop it....to remove....

which is not recommended....

best way......compress the springs with a compressor in order to take out the top nut....it'll relieve tension and allow you to take the nut off....with a standard closed end wrench....

.......if you have an impact wrench (with compressor)...just zip it off...CAREFULLY....as to not strip the threads.... (couple toggles on the impact trigger to break it loose)...this should be fairly safe as well...(assuming you are handy with an impact wrench...otherwise do it manually above)

or....old fashion way WITHOUT COMPRESSOR....(i've done this on alot of hondas...and a VW JETTA which also has the same Mcpherson strut setup like the EVO...so it is ok)

......slowy turn the nut and watch as the whole things explodes into the pile of cardboard you set up against your wall.......BE VERY CAREFUL....i've heard of people having springs shoot up on their jaw and bust their mouths WIDE open....please don't do this if ur not mechanically inclined.......(oh...and this will still be reliable on the car as long as you don't strip the threads.....)

as for the re-install ...the springs should be short enough where you won't need to compress the new spring to put them back....installation is reverse of removal...

oh...and reinstall the 19mm lower shock bolts EXACTLY the same way (marking the knuckle/shock assembly before removal is a good suggestion so you can line it right back up when puttin it back) ....sometimes if it is off by a bit....and the holes aren't lined up perfectly when tightened back down...you could throw your camber off a bit....just fyi.....

hope this helps.....be careful man....

You don't need a spring compressor to tighten the nuts with the teins in. You don't "need" it to remove the stock springs, however if you haven't done this before I would highly recommend using them. You are also going to need to cut your bump stops too. Good Luck.

you gotta slice them in half.....in order for full suspension travel.....

if ur lower ur car with the Tiens...(it's alot lower than stock)...if u don't cut them...ur cars just gonna keep wacking the 'stops....

cut them in half...more rod travel....leave them long...little to no rod travel.....

hope this helps...

Your springs should come with a chart with how much you are supposed to cut the bump stops. I just used a hacksaw and it went through like butter.

lmao....to the original poster, maybe you can try to find a thread w/ pics...however, you might want to consider just taking it to a mechanic.
