SPA gauges..anyone use them??
http://www.race-sport.net/SPA_Dualdig.html
just wondering if anyone has used these instead of the usual greddy, autometer, defi, etc gauges. ive seen them in several machv cars and wondered if anyone has used them and the reliablility of them. i know that the defi gauges are made by nippon seki whom make the gauges for the honda brand of cars. dont believe me? check out the factory gauge cluster on any honda... that is why defi is reliable. here is a car with several SPA gauges it looks like...

uhm... every try the defi d-gauges? they're crap and inaccurate. you get what you pay for, when you buy good gauges you get good quality, even good manufactures make bad quality stuff to compete with low end market. spa's are good but most people like sweeping gauges. i will be running spa and there is an old thread where someone put spas on their console search new gauge pod design/idea.
Digital gauges are generally used in applications where the brain has time to "Process" what its looking at..
Most race cars use sweep gauges, with their "Optimal zone" oriented to point north so you can quickly glance at the gauges and see if everything is ok, the needle is pointing straight up.. (thats why you see many of them are clocked or rotated to what may appear as some random looking direction)
These gauges are usually used in street cars, or in situations where its not as critical to monitor the values, but is informational (I see them used alot on engine dyno setups)
Their great gauges if you have limited space and dont need the quick glance or have wired alert lights for critical functions. I see these do appear to have alert lamps for that reason.

Yep, got em, use em, love em.
I didn't want to go with the Defi WallClock Series, so I went for these. With the exception of and LED going out (covered under warranty), I've had no problems with them at all. They saved a lot of space and the warning LED's are nice. You just set them and forget about it until it starts beeping at you.
I've tracked the car quite a lot this year and you can see the warning lights out of the corner of your eye even when you're trying to concentrate on braking deeper in the corner.
Best option out there for gauges if your goal is to save space and be up on what's going on without having to watch needles.

thank you all for the informational posts. speedomodel- i have that picture of your car saved and tried to post for others to see. thank you for that. i also would like to know how you made the lower piece where the ashtray was??!!! as far as accuracy and durability-are the digital gauges tooooo accurate you think?? and do they have parts readily available if the parts fail?? do they just read in C or in F as well?? i bought a Hardy panel with the 2-5/8" holes thinking i was going to get the Defi gauges and i remembered these for my GST. anyone get any great prices on them??
i was also looking at these gauges- http://www.42draftdesigns.com/sw.htm or other available digital boost gauges. i would also like to try the autometer NEXUS series when it is released. i like the idea of the customizing of the display colors. if they are accurate enough... they seem to catch up to the others as far as the stepper motors and technology like apexi, hks, defi, etc...

No such thing as too accurate, but the warning lights help a lot. They carry a 1 year warranty on all parts. They can be adjusted to read in either C or F for the temps and psi or bar for the pressure gauges. Backlight is also adjustable from red to green.

Wow, both those Stewart Warner and Autometer NEXUS gauges look damn nice. I've always preferred VDO to Autometer in the past, but that NEXUS demo is really impressive. It's about time someone made guages with lighting that could be easily matched to the interior. I'm sure all of these gauges are accurate; however, the digital gauges will always be more precise. In fact, the SPAs can display temps to the 10th of a degree if you like. One thing you don't get a feel for with digital gauges, though, is the rate of change.
