Thievery?

As some of you may know, I currently drive an ITR as my daily driver. ITR's (and all hondas for that matter) are very often the target of thieves who harvest them for their parts. This is due to the ease of which you could swap the engine and other "go-fast" parts onto every other Integra and civic around. This industry is single handedly making ITR's very very rare in certain places around the US....which leads me to my questions...

How easily do you think the parts (engine, suspension, interior, wheels) on our future Evo's will be to swap onto other Mitsu vehicles? Do you all think the Evo will be as much as of a theft magnet as the Integra Type R's are currently?

Well...I remember seeing a couple of Evo VII's in Japan on a website broken into and having parts such as the seats, the engine, steering wheel being stolen. Basically the Evo VII's that i saw were f***d up. Thats why they were sellin them for about $7-9,000

So who knows....maybe that can happen here.... It basically depends on the area you live in....Just pray it doesn't

Hey man, Look at it this way.. If they want it, there's nothin you can do to stop it.. But you can deter them by simply using the tools offered.. Alarm, the club, and old faithful-Smith and Wesson....

Well, engine is in opposite direction compare to the existing DSMs. Also, trainsmition is completely different as well as the transfer case. Rear end is of different design, so it would be hard to do the swap. As of the regular Lancer, we will know soon how close/far is from the new EVO.

sad to think there is nothing we can do..
if thieves are really determined to bag an evo or any
other ride..they have the tools to do so...
* we can only delay them w/ our alarms and all..
and hopefully catch em in the act...
and give em a beating

Believe me, I know. On the Integra Type R board, it seems that we hear about a break-in or theft every week. My car was attempted stolen too. But they didn't quite make it through all my security layers. but they did manage to take 3 of the 5 ITR's in my town that month. :|

MRAWD, seems to be addressing things best. I was hoping to hear that the parts from the Evo VIII's won't be too interchangeable with the Mitsu auto line-up.

I don't think (read: hope) it'll be nearly as savory a target as the Honda.....

And unless you live in texas, that shooting would be followed quickly by you being arrested and charged with murder or attempted murder....Would it be worth it? No! You can't drive your Evo if you are in Jail!

In most states, you can't shoot someone who is trying to take your car...and you could only arguably even shoot a person if they were threatening you with bodily harm in the process of stealing your car.

Part of the problem with Hondas and thievery is the fact that Hondas are so overwhelmingly abundant. Not saying break-ins wont occur, but I think us Evo freaks are of a better breed than the rice boys Anyways, yeah it will happen, you just have to assume that it will and prepare for it with security measures.

Exactly aphex....But I'd also lump in some Lancer owners into that "rice-boy" moniker. ...and if lots of parts from the Evo's translate easily to the Lancer, we could see alot of theft as Evo owners.

But, you are correct....We would be insane to not be prepared for the theft onslaught!

If anybody has any concrete information, i.e. personal experience ect... about interchangability (is that even a word? ) of Evo to Lancer, it would be appreciated. I hope it's not too high, but all in the same stuff like the wheel and the seats ect... are always of interest to thieves.

Why would you care if your car got stolen, or had parts stolen out of it? Why do you think theres a thing called Auto Insurance? Think about it this way, there taking your used parts, and your getting new parts. Simple as that... Well for the acception the vehicle might have a black mark on its CarFax report....

Have you ever had to make a claim against with an insurance agency? Usually when stuff happens where the insurance pays off your premiums end up going up not to mention the deductible, not to mention how ****ty it would be trying to drive your new Evo with no steering wheel or seats for 3 months while your insurance company jacks you around with reimbursement.

The swapability between Evo and Lancer will be oh...inconsequential for you guys. They're entirely different engines and this entire engine swap topic is practically worthless even in consideration for any Lancer. I'd just be scared of people parting out the car for the turbo, seats, Brembos, any other high buck but small and hard to track parts. Watch out for the Galant and Eclipse guys using the 4G64. Hehehe, they may want your head.
