Go with either one, you will not regret the decision anyway. Coming from any other car, STI or MR will be a totally different experience.

I just got done after shopping around today. I got to test drive a MR and all I can say is "Wow" I love that thing so much. I went to the Subaru dealer and they offered me an 05 STi for about 31k, I was impressed with the dealer as well. I really like the MR more than the subaru but it's so hard to pass up for such a good price. What do you all think about it? I also got to test drive a 350z but I liked MR/STi more. I'm not sure of the price on the MR because the sales man wouldn't let me know the bottom line. I'll find that out tomorrow. Any input would be nice. Flames are welcome too...
They can do better on the 05 STI pricing. You can get it in mid 29ks or high 29. If you do go with the STI, shop around. The dealers are not moving them fast enough so they are willing to discount.

MR or STI

I read in the SCC that it will be out by next fall. I have an MR, but if I had to choose between the two I would have chosen the obvious the "MR"......Pick the car that will make the happiest...

I would, and did, buy a 'standard' 05 Evo, under 31K out the door. I knew the STi would be close in price. but I liked the handling and looks of the Evo better - although I also liked the STi quite a bit.

Wow! nice deal. Why don't you hook the guy up with some info to get him the same numbers out the door

you COULD just wait til the IX comes out. it will have more hp and tq along with ALL (hopefully) the MR parts on it as standard. only downside is waiting
Don't wait. If you wait for the nine, a special addition might come out soon there after, or evonine mr or something. Besides, after a few months of getting an evo nine, then you'll start seeing spy photos for the evo 10. If you like it get it, and be happy with it. there will always be a car that has more horsepower or can handle better or will look better. Just get something you like and be happy with what you have. I agree with what was said before. Your already spending over 30k, might as well get what you want for a few more.

[QUOTE=Traitor]. How well is the Subaru for moding, I've heard it can't handle that much power 'cause of the aluminum engine.

- exactly, not much fun modding that car

I think it's worth the extra money.

-so do i , i wish i could have have one

I have no place to get it serviced.
The dealer I'm buying it in is about 40 miles away so It's kind of a drive for me

- 40 miles is practically nothing to drive for service. plus it would be a fun drive. but many service things you can do on your own. oil change, etc .....

Everyone thinks I should get STi but me.

- you have just answered your own question. why do what other people think is better for you? you get the sti and everytime you see an evo on the road you will think 'man that could have been me' "why did i settle?" well dont get the sti- dont have any regrets

I doubt I could get less than 37k OTD for an MR.

- so what , its only money

Does the GSR have a similar level of performance to the MR is it very far off?

- very simular, this the next best thing and still better than the sti!

I didn't get to test drive the GSR only MR. What would be a good OTD price for a new 05 GSR?

-anything below 34k

If I can, I’d prefer an evo over STi but I'll settle for an STi. .

- i hate that word settle.
