New MR? Help
This isn’t a video game. This is 100% reality. The 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR Edition is here at last – all turbocharged 276 horsepower of it. And the streets of America will never be the same. So, strap yourself in and unleash what is truly one of the most dominating performance packages ever placed in a four-door sedan. You know the supercar-like performance numbers. You’ve read about the revolutionary Active Center Differential. You know about the refined handling and ride-comfort provided by the Bilstein® shocks. Now drive it for yourself – and if you bring a copilot, tell them to hold on tight.
people here smash on mitsu about warranties yada yada , but none of us have had major stuff happen , except for clutches . go to the sti forums and read about the now legendary piston #2 food for thought. it comes down to what do you want strong motor, weak clutch that gives out under that said abuse? or blown motor due to light modifacations? like i says this is my opinion and i could be wrong , but these are my reasons for going with the EVO or The STi . plus, a local guy around here who i've talked to briefly had a standalone ECU and a catback and blow-off valve and had one of his pistons seize inside of the motor , I unfortunately dont know all the answers but this was enoughfor we to stay as far away from the STi as possible

Well, Traitor, as a former STi owner and current MR owner who recently faced exactly the same decision that you're facing, I've got to weigh in on this.
There have been excellent replies on this thread, and pretty much all of the issues have been covered. It's obvious which one you prefer. I say go for it, and don't worry about what others think.
There's been some talk of resale value. My totaled '04 STi with 25,000 miles was valued at over $27k by the insurance company. That's pretty darned good, I think. Evos seem to be holding their value pretty well, too, considering the beating Mitsu's been taking recently. But I suspect the rarity of the MR will give it an edge over the STi. Nearly every Subaru dealer within a couple hundred miles has multiple STis in stock.
I loved my STi and I would have been very happy to replace it with a new '05 STi. My dealer was near by and very supportive. My Mitsu dealer is now 35 miles away and and I don't yet know if they're going to be as good as my Subaru dealer.
In the end, I decided to switch to the MR for two reasons. First, in head-to-head comparisons between the STi and the Evo in the automotive press, the Evo wins almost every time--they usually cite better handling and steering and a more "in control" feel overall. Second, I've already owned an STi so I figured why not try an Evo?
Bottom line: I think you'll be very happy with either.

Well, today I went to the local mitsu dealer. I had been very disapointed with their service dept. so I was putting off going to their sales. Well, the sales rep was VERY nice to me, and gave me an MR for $35,500 (+Tax tags title) with 7 miles on the odo. So, the hard part now is going to be breaking in my new MR! I'm so happy with this car. Only thing that's gonna be hard it to not wind that sweet sounding turbo for 600 miles.
