evo 8,, hope it grows on me?

i have put a $1000 dep. on a evo 8 ( red , roof, wing). I just hope i warm up to this car. Im 32 and feel that is kind of a kids car. but then again most kids cant afford 30k on a new car. My thought of putting $ down on the car is,,,,, all wheel drive(year round car) fast/sporty, good value, limited production(this might hold its value very well with low dep).

I cant wait for some car mags to test this thing out! I have a feeling that they underestimated the power in this evo8. I hoping for 5.0 to 60 and low 13's in 1/4 mile. If this is the fact then i will prob. get it. If not i think i might look at the srt-4 from dodge. This car is $20k and has 223hp/250tq. at the wheels!
In all i want another sports car, it has been too long. I have had a 4x4 jeep, Tacoma, f150 from the past 8 years.

Also another fact that im going to have to deal with is im a big guy 6-2 285,,, i dont fit in most sports cars. They are very tight, but i guess that is the way they are suppose to be. I will just have to get use to it. I tested a oz lancer before i put $ down on the evo, and it was kind of boring, but i did fit in it. I realize the evo will have about 2.5 times the power of the lancer, so that isnt a concern, its just i hope the car impresses me like the 350z did the first time i seen it.

Any thoughts? And what do you guys think of the seats in the evo8? Are they going to be really tight or not?

Thanks!

You're in almost the exact same situation as me. I want this car, for a sports car, yes, but also for a fun car to drive year around. I don't want some toy, but I don't want some ultra-expensive exotic car.

I think everyone is STRONGLY underestimating the power that this car will have, and are just looking at the numbers. If you look at the numbers of even the Evo 7, it is not that impressive, compared to exotic sports cars, but in performance it actually is on the same level.

I'm also a big guy... 6', 280, and from what I've been told, the seats are more made for the larger Americans, and not the smaller version. I know someone who actually sat in one, and he is probably 6', 240 and had a ton of room to spare. Sit in a normal lancer once and you'll see how much room there actually is inside one of these things.

2.5x the power of a lancer is a very conservative estimate as well. It'll have a lot more than that. For the looks, the 350z may look better (depending on the person... personally, I think it looks ugly), but it will have quite a bit more performance than the 350z. Just wait and see. It'll be worth it.

Same situation, well almost

When I first heard of the Evo I wanted it sooo bad. It was in rally review video I had purchased and was also in a corny Jackie Chan movie called Thunderbolt. I was 24 then. When the dealer called I placed my order with a quickness that matched the Evo itself. Then I realized that I'm 30, married and just had my first child. I also realized that I didn't care. Rally on babY!!!!

I'm 28, baby on the way--that is why I love this car. A sports car for 4 seasons with room for the family.

Silvrvr6: I guess since I'm younger than you I'm a child (I'm 31 )

I would say all the ricer phobia concerning the Evo is silly. This car is completely functional. Yes, the rear wing is big, but it's functional. It has awd and will outhandle most anything else out on the road. Bye-bye Boxter S. Bye-bye Audi S4. And my personal favorite, V8 Mustangs with only a bolt on exhaust. And plenty of other stuff with only a few upgrades to the Evo.

As to being concerned about children, that's silly. Obviously, most of you weren't at the SCCA Solo II California Championships where Erik had a child seat in the back of his red Evo 7. I thought that was pretty cool.

I am in the same boat as many of you.... 28, no kids, but driving a tiny little rx7 was getting old.. so was having 2 car payments. they evo is an excellent compromise for me. it will probably never perform like my fd (I prefer rwd to awd any day of the week) and it will never haul stuff around like my outback, but it is pretty quick, should be excellent in the show (with dif tires), can seat four, and can handle weekend trips. It should be as perfect as any vehicle can be without having $1200 month payments

I think you will find most people buying this car are going to be older than 25. I will be 28 in February.
I was also thinking about the 350z, but I just had my 1st child and realized that I could never go out with my wife and child together with the 350, even just to the ice cream shop or something. It would be such a waste. I also fully believe that the EVO is a better performer and has greater potential (at least for a lot less money).

I now have a $500 deposit on an A00 white, which is my dealers only allocated car currently. I live in Houston, but had to go 100 miles to find a dealer listing at MSRP and with no protection package, dealer prep, etc crap.

Well, one of the great seling points (to my wife-to-be of course ) is that EVO is a four door sedan, so bigger family can fit in there, unlike right now with the Talon

I can pretty much just continue to echo some of the thoughts that are already in this thread but here is my situation.

I'll be 27 in February, no wife, no kids, but I plan on having this car for a while, which means things could change soon. It's hard to look away from AWD, substantial power, room for 4-5 people, and a nice appearance for $30k. The timing couldn't have been more right for my situation. People can moan and groan all they want on this message board or out there in "real life" about this car, but in my opinion, I'll be completely happy when I get to drive my car home 2-4 months from now. I hope the rest of you will enjoy it as much as I'm going to.

The Evo looks like it will proove to be a really profitable car for mitsu.... **** the wrx is.... and people are still looking for more performance, the evo is there car!

nothing like a sedan that can haul ***! hell i bought my p5 and originally a mp3 (mazda limited run) because it could haul people, and still run autox during the weekends and win! good handling rules... but those cars dont have the power or even an lsd to do some good damage.... once i figure out a way you'll see me driving a EVO7 hopefully, if not probably an 8, but i still prefer the 7
