Just got new EVO. Some feelings and lots of questions.

Leave the engine and intake stock for now. I would start with a turboback exhuast after breaking in the engine using regular non-synthetic oil for the first couple of thousand miles then maybe move on to engine management.
2) Would this improve over time as the suspension is broken in?
you might want to check your tire pressure as evo is known as probably the sharpest handling compact car ever. The steering is faster than everything else out there and you should feel very connected to the road. Maybe give it more time.
Sorry can't help you on the rest.

Just looked at the contract again and it does say 2004. And the car has 13miles on it when I got it and the back seat still had the wrapping. Does the vin number tell which year it is?

Hands down the evo steering input is more precise and balanced than the s2ks, thats not even a question. If I felt the same way you did, I wouldve just kept the S2k and not gotten the evo. Anyways, you can do turbo timer/ catback/ drop in filter w/out voiding the warranty at my local dealership, it varies from dealership to dealership.

you are welcome bluedd. On the oil issue please call Vishnu and ask them the same question. These guys KNOW evo and you can be sure they know what they are talking about. Regarding the warranty, running regular oil for 1000 miles then changing back to synthetic for good is not going to void your warranty unless you go out of your way to tell them. Many cars burn oil which is a sign the pistons have not seated properly. My car has not burn a drop of oil since new. I know my suggestion was going to be controversial but I am glad I did it with my own car.

AFTER BREAKIN of ENGINE and BRAKES:
Get a tune - either an ECU flash or an SAFC2: best bang for the buck.
Add a catback (best exhaust mod if you're not replacing it all) at least and look into the Works "Aperture" throttle body mod. Don't forget to get your tune/flash adjusted for these mods.
Get an alignment - get some negative camber in the front and a bit less negative camber in the rear.
Get a larger, adjustable rear swaybar.
Get all-seasons if your temps much below 50, let alone snow. And rotate the OEMs per recommendations: ESPECIALLY if you use them, the alignment above, and do alot of highway driving.
Get synchromesh in the trans and get a short-shifter if you feel the need.
There, that should keep you busy!

1. I was able to buy a K&N typhoon intake from my
dealership. After the install I could hear the turbo spool up and the bov when i shift and the turbo releases pressure. I had the drop in and I think u will like the K&N much better. sounds cooler.
2.may not pull in as well as 05 because of the LSD issue. I have an 04 but it is an RS so it has the LSD. Really Pulls u through the corners to the point that i wonder if the Recaro's will hold me in the seat and not throw me into the door. And i weigh only around 150 Lbs. Get a Rear Strut tower brace to Firm it up a bit. And also u can replace the rear sway bar that is stock 10mm. to one that is 11mm. In a mag i read it said doing that small change makes the back end much easier to place and gives the car nuetral balance.
3. If u do a search u can find how to articles. I have a white car and was going to white out the parts in the lights inbetween the bulbs. I asked an officer about it and said "way illegal" so do it at ur own risk. by the way if u have to buy new tail lights cause of a ticket, new taillights cost 500 dollars.
4. There is a company that makes bulbs that look almost like HID. They are called Silver Star. And i dont think they are that expensive
5. Pedel set from Mitsubishi costs around 90 dollars. I got blue with instrument cluster surround with blue as well. they match. The pedals need to be drilled. good luck is a pain in the booty. Shift knob mitsubishi sells that is the same color blue they charge like 130. I think its to much but can get cool aftermarket one for cheaper. but i like the fact that the leather never burns my hands. Ebrake handle. heck my rs came stipped of one and dont miss the leather wtf. soft hands lol
6. B&M make a really nice one that sells for around 2 and a half. but u will need to pick up a small part from mitsubishi to make the install go smoothly. Just be aware that when u put in the shorter throw u will not have as much leverage so u will have to pull harder to shift. I have no problems with it but others said they prefer stock. As far as feel u should get a new set of shifter cables. the 05 mr has nice cables on it. and also change the rubber bushings to steel. I think or the other way around.. wich ever it is switch it.
7. as far as brakes just think u need to break them in. mine were fine from the go. but i tested another and the brakes were really stiff on that one. Just dont do any HARD stops till they are broken in.
sorry if any of this is a repost and I hope it helps. and welcome to the cool club.

.The '04s also came with HIDs for whoever threw that gem out there.
As has already been said, check your tyre pressures. Many people hav reported 40 PSI from the dealer and this will make the car pushy to say the least.
As far as oil goes: Next Evo I buy I am going to swap out the oil to dino oil immediately and drive it like I stole it from the get-go. My current car was broken in according the Mitsu's break-in precedure and she's a dog. The oil stinks of petrol every oil change too.
Thanks everyone. Just check and confirm that it's 04 from the vin. Also I adjusted the tire pressure (35 on all corners from dealer) and it does feel much better now. The s2k still feels closer to the road which is a tad better but the evo is good too. The car would need alignment as everyone suggests and it actually pulls to the left a bit.
