what do you mean it meakes no differance? it does make a differance. Its alot brighter. Why do you think the caltran freeway workers use the same type of high entensity discharge bulbs to work on freeways at night? there not going to use regular bulbs. Come on now, do you really know what the differance between both the HIDs and regular bulbs are in a car? Now I dont know what the wattage was when you had HIDs. They might of not been that bright. hop into a s2000 or a bmw, or even a evo with oem hids, you'll see a differance.

I am telling you I have had both in two different Evos. It makes no difference on the road. It is just a different color which after driving a minute you can not see. Your brain color corrects so well that it does not matter. Same reason when you’re under fluorescent lights that everything does not look green.

Both systems were stock Mitsu as delivered on the car on two different Evos. I would say the non HIDs were better in rain and fog also. Both have very similar cut offs. High-beams are not HID in either case. Plus they weigh more.

It is a fashion statement. I don’t take automotive advice from Caltrans have you seen their work?

The regular lights are just fine. The other improvements (bigger turbo, LSD, Sports ABS, Teflon shifter cables, ACD, etc) are more noticeable than just F&F lights.

Once you go HID nothing is the same. I have difficulty seeing at night, the HID's are life savers for me. Without them I feel very uncomfortable driving. '05 guys no need to be snide, remember if we all would have waited like you guys then there would be no '05 models here in the first place

I traded in my '03 evo for a silver MR, so both of the cars have been HID. However, I have ridden in a '05 evo without the HIDs, and although the visibility was similar, i felt more comfortable with the HID intense blue / white lighting. all in all, i think it is mainly a personal preference.

There are some regular bulbs (Sylvania Silverstar) out there that are close to the HID; but, these are like imitation HID. But regular bulbs can't compare to the performance of the HID since HID requires less energy and last longer (as long as it's not a defect).

It's not just the matter of HIDs look better than regular halogens. It's the color output of the HIDs which allow you to see objects better. In a dark room, what can you see better with a flourescent or halogen light? And the ballast itself doesn't weigh that much (what 10-15lbs on a 3300lb car?).

I love the hids on mine. I had trouble seeing driving at night in the rain before they are just great. For comparison I drove my wifes Toyota Corolla the other night in the rain it looked almost like the lights weren't one. Hugh difference between regular headlights. Now for the new evos with non hids I have never seen one to see how much difference the light output is. But if it is anything like any other car with normal style headlights I would defently pick the hids.

I consider the halogens in my RS to be very bright. Top notch when put up against say a regular halogen bulb in another vehicle. They are 10x better than the lights in my cav at night. And the high beams in the evo... don't even need to comment on the quality there.

HID's should outlive the life of the car, mainly because they have no filament to burn out. It amazes me what people complain about. First, the 05 Evo costs the about same as the 03 but has ACD and a Front LSD and loses the HID's and intercooler sprayer. With the US dollar in the toilet you should be glad that Mitsu included the stuff that is expensive to add and left off the stuff that doesn't make you go faster, but lets you order it if you want. Retrofitting HID's is much easier than ACD/Front LSD, no? Stop complaining, people. I've been on many forums and nowhere can I find more whiners than here.
