I'm lovin' the HIDs, but I don't think they're the end of the world. It's one of those cool things I've wanted on a car for a while, and I really dig the color of them, but I never had problems seeing at night before...well, maybe in my '79 CJ, but that's just because those headlights suck.

i got HID's on my base 05 GSR...heh heh....

just by a retrofit kit...yeah...the housing is not made for it...but oh well...i have brighter lights, and since it's projector, it doesn't scatter as much and blind people....

i got 4300k...just like stock...and yeah..it's bright...and you can't even tell....

HIDS, sunroof, leather and bigger stereo was not worth the 3k markup....forget it...

looked everywhere for a phillips retrofit kit and finally found one at www.xenondepot.com

if u don't want to retrofit....go Sylvania Silver Stars....those are the best (imo) aftermarket bulbs...that give you that whiter look....

You don't know how good the HIDs are until you do without them..... I had them in my '03 GSR and they came with my wife's '03 Max SE... They came with my '05 MR and I can tell you that when I drive my old Miata, it seems like I'm driving with the lights off! The only way I know for sure they are on is because the barn doors are up

Also, remember that the new '05 GSR has a LEVELING feature that allow you to tilt the HIDs up higher. I found this to be invaluable as I rode down the back highway coming away from Big Bear, CA. HIDs are indeed brighter. Take a simple light meter from a camera store or radio shack and you will see the difrerence in illumination. You can read some FAQ on this website

http://www.autodirectsave.com/REAL_KIT_SYSTEM.asp

The eye indeed does adjust to nightime vision using its "scotopic" vision, meaning rod photoreceptors play a more prominent role. However, the adjustment is very minimal considering the HIDs provide such a even, bright light source.

Bottom line: HIDs are brighter.

Let me state the obvious... you dug up a 5 year old topic?

Yeah its normal for there to be a cut off point for the HID lights. I really don't enjoy driving at night outside of town with them. My wife's infiniti doesn't seem to share that problem so it may be only with the Evo headlights

if your car came stock with them, there should be an adjustment knob to adjust the height of the beam, and the cutoff/range.

although the evo hid's are much nicer than the halogens, they still arent as nice as some others on the market (like the s2000 or the acura tsx)

But still comes with projector lens unlike the EVO X GSR without SSS package which comes with HALOGEN headlights that just look like a regular lancer halogen housing headlights..
