Got a Warning in Wisconsin over my Evo's Spoiler
I'm still dealing with a front plate ticket..
Lake Country deputies are like the worst. I got the ticket to comply signed and dated ahead of the deadline, but it didn't make it back to the court in time. (a 30 day warning)
And they denied my request to dismiss it!
I tell you, the front plate is an understandable citation for the most part but the rear factory spoiler??! That is HILARIOUS.
Show up to court with your original window sticker showing the "high spoiler" as a factory installed option . You will be outta there in five minutes..
Front plate ticket on the other hand..

they cant do that because that is how the car comes it would be illegal for him to do that. They would have to recall all Evos and fix them. Check your vehicle code on your DMV website and see what it says.
I am in your area all the time. Wisconsin cops are power tripping morons who pick on anyone they feel they can push around. Dont worry about what he said, i have also talked to a wi trooper who has pulled me over and he said as long as it is oem they cant do anything about it.
I don't think he would have much of a leg to stand on for that ticket......
Wisconsin Law:
346.88(3)(c)
(c) No person shall drive any motor vehicle upon a highway so loaded or with any object so placed or suspended in or upon the vehicle so as to obstruct the driver's clear vision through the rear window unless such vehicle is equipped with an outside rear view mirror meeting the requirements of 347.40(1)
(1) No person shall operate any motor vehicle upon a highway unless such vehicle is equipped with a mirror so located as to reflect to the operator a view of the roadway for a distance of 200 feet to the rear of such vehicle.

Jimmyv65 is on the right track. At a federal level (from being on military bases most of my life) the requirement is if the rear window is obstructed, you have to have both outside mirrors and be able to see them clearly. You can definitely fight this in court, but don't be a punk with the officer. My best friends a cop and it makes their night when people get lippy. You'd be surprised how many things you can get tickets for. Stickers on your windshield? Does your license plate have even a smudge on it? Are your tires the proper tread depth? Do you have anything dangling from your rear view mirror? Basically, you can go from a wing ticket that you can fight in court to about five $75 tickets that you won't be able to. That, and if the Cop writes an "A" and circles it at the top of the tickets, it means you had an attitude (also, a for A$$hole) In other words, you better make your court date and be prepared to pay the fines.
It isn't up to the police to interpret the laws. It's their job to enforce the laws as they are written. Have him give you a ticket without backtalking him and then go to court over it.
I get threatened all the time about how I have my front license plate displayed, because the cops in VA think that it HAS to be mounted to the outside of the vehicle, on the factory license plate bracket. I always here "I can give you a ticket and you can go to court over it".....Every time, I say "do what you have to do, here's a copy of Virginia's law (and show them the copy I keep in my glove box). They always retreat and say "when you get a chance, I suggest you move it down to the bracket to avoid further harassment from the police.
I don't understand why the police are so dumb like this. I mean, there must not be enough real crime to worry about.
Lame.

As you get pulled over more and more there becomes a small connection between the cops and yourself. Hopefully it will be a positive one. One way to not even get pulled over is to get active military plates, or veteran plates for those of you that have been in the military or still are. They usually look completly different than the original state plates. Here is an example of WI's:

FF, EMT, etc plate:
The bottom 2 in WI usually will still require the cop to stare at you but will probably not get pulled over.

Usually the larger city cops won't care so much to pull you over for a taillight out, or a huge spoiler, etc. But rest assured once you leave the safty of the big town there are the small town mob cops waiting for you. For everyone that lives in SE WI they all know about the West Allis PD, they are legendary for giving BS tickets. and they have an attititude to go with it.

just a thought, i'm sure you can sue the cops for something, afterall this is America and people sue each other for stupid things all the time. Maybe for wasting time?, stealing your youth? or just being retarded.
