Future Evolution owners - How much track time do you have?
What is so unrealistic about this thread to begin with is the fact that this isn't the first sports car to go on sale in America but for some reason there seem to be a few people who think this one is coming to America strictly for racing reasons alone and anyone else who buys the car is wasting their time. What a shame people are so ignorant.

The point is...... The *****ing about the lack options is being done mostly by people who really do not even know how to drive a car quickly........ some folks think they are race car drivers who "need" acd/ayc, but they have only ever driven their cars on the street at slightly faster than the speed limit (or threw someone's yard).

I have no track experience but I have pushed a few of my cars especially my old '88 Rx-7. I intend to make the Evo my first AWD car and I also am in the process of finding a track in my area. It's going to be a new experience. I think I might know where the track is and all I need now is the Evo.
Summit pt in WVa or VIR just south of Richmond should be easy for you to get to.
Does anyone know what class the Evo would go into for SCCA solo II? I may just go SM with a stock car, since Im sure I can't hold myself back from modding it before the end of the year and our SM class here is not that strong. I would like to know the stock class though to see how I fair against other stock competition for a race or two.

Plan on starting to autocross sometime in the new year. Am also saving for a 3 day driving school. My father used to race TR 3's, so I have a basic knowledge of late apexs, heel toe, trail braking, etc.
Paying off graduate school loans has seriously dampened my racing plans. But that should be changing soon.
Just for the record, I think a lot of people will become interested in racing/autocross once they get an Evo. I mean, I'm not sure what some people are driving now, but my car isn't exactly what most people would consider sporty. Owning an Evo would (will) make me more interested in track days, etc.
BTW, what's your track experience?

Megabusa, why not vent your rage on a more appropriate subject? I suggest you go to every SUV driver you see and ask them why they have 4wd to pick up the kids from soccer. if someone wants something and is willing to pay for it, who are you to tell them otherwise?
the problem seems to be that people have been waiting a long time, and have had their hopes built up, and now feel like they're being sold short. let them vent, logical or not.

LOL

I know it is stupid for people to pay $60k+ for something they will never take off road.
But... I see you have a wrangler. I have a 4.0 with a 5 speed... mine has chunks of mud and **** all under it, so at least I know mine is used correctly

I give up on argueing about the need or lack of need for gimicks that no one will use. People claim they will use it on snow... you have to be driving damn fast to even notice the difference and I doubt anyone here will be doing 10/10's on a snow covered dirt road where the acd may actually help.
Merry X-mas.

Megabusa,
I think most people on this board are aware of the shortcomings/intusiveness of the AYC. Most people ***** now about not having ACD, which is a lot more responsive than a viscous unit (and a lot less complicated than AYC). I, for one, am going to wait until ACD becomes an option (or a year, whichever is shorter
) and then get an Evo. Until then, I will probably start autocrossing my TRD Camry and see what she can do (besides plowing through corners..damn FWD and an open diff).
I for one would rather have the rear RS mechanical LSD.

Atlvalet is right on the money about viscous vs. ACD. Viscous diffs are slow to react then they overreact making the car unpredictable (funny enough the same complaint most have about AYC). Our best option (with what we know now) is to replace the center and front viscous units with mechanical diffs.
By the way Megabusa brings up a good point, NO difference is felt untill the car slids. This is all "at limit" stuff

Track time?? Well I'm more into the sprint category than autocross.. My track time consists of basic stuff from the police academy.. But I get to drive really fast and I always take my unit to the extremes.. Nothin like a nice power slide in a giant crown victoria... Besides, I can always get a new car if I wreck!! Now my sweet EVO will be tuned to the sprint category... I've driven an EVO VI TME in stock form.. And if the EVO VIII's suspension is even nearly the same, it'll be just fine for daily driving and spirited driving both... Just remember, whatever you do, be safe about it...
Regardless of driving experience or track time, there should be no need to have to explain the logic of wishing to have open-ended potential in your car. It is nice for people to know that as they grow as a driver, they aren't quickly approaching the limits of their cars performance. As a general rule, why would you wish ANYTHING other than to have your car's limits be further than you, as a driver, can push it? This entire thread seems completely arbitrary.
