Future Evolution owners - How much track time do you have?

Since everyone here is a race driver, lets see how much actual track time everyone has.

I at least have enough experience to run solo with Carguys, I have been signed off at Summit Point for 3 years or so, and will be running in the "Advanced" group with NASA in the spring.

I have a total of about 15 track days between Summit Point, The Jefferson Course and Beaverun.

I have no problem admitting that on tarmac (i don't usually intend to run through the grass, and if i did, I would not be quick enough to switch the ACD button while I spin toward the jersey wall) I would probably not notice any difference in a ACD equipped EVO vs a non ACD equiped.

I would like to see how much experience other buyers have to see if it warrants the constant complaining about acd/ayc

I auto-x'd once and found 4 hours is an extremely long day with only 3 47 second runs.... I would much rather pay $200 to do a real track day.

At last count:

18 driving schools over four years.

30+ competitive autocross at the local level

Goals for next year: BMW Club Racing (goal is four races), One Lap of America (in the Evolution ) plus another 5-10 autocrosses and 5-10 driving schools on at least three different tracks.

(Except for One Lap of America, my evolution probably won't see much if any track time. I've got a race car for that... the Evo is going to be my daily driver most of the time, just a fast and fun street car)

Very nice..... I was running at Beaverun when the one lap guys were there in October....... it is on the schedule for next year so they needed to get some practice.... the blue viper, lightning, camaro ss, the guy who has the shogun (used to be mine - see pic ) (jack) was there with his 944 turbo, etc......

I am using my evo for daily driver and occasional track (S2000 is modified some to run on track right now).

Although I don't have any road track time, that is my main plan for my Evolution. My Galant VR-4 just cant take the abuse I don't think, so I never risked it (cooling system).
I have done many autocross, drag races, and rallycross though, so I have a good idea how the car does at low speeds.

The evo will not be used very often other than to race, though I might take it out for a spin here and there at night.

This is what I suspect is the case with most people on this board. Most people are not track participants with Lancer OZ's!

Everyone thinks they are race ready until they actually get to a track with an instructor and realize they suck. There is so much to learn before you come close to exploring the limits of a car....

Track days are fun but certainly add up in cost quickly. $150-$200 per day and new brakes pads every 2-3 trips to the track... but it certainly puts a grin on your face!

Track time (sigh)... I certainly miss it, but should have some $ to do some next year. As far as what I've done so far... Primarily formula racing: 3 years of Skip Barber Formula Dodge, 1 year of Formula Mazda, and 1 year of Formula 1800 in Korea. Of course, you can't forget karting... perhaps the best bang for the buck and no better way of learning how to race. My future racing plans are leaning toward rallying or touring cars, since I'm getting too old for formula racing. Hope to see you at the track one day!

***-umptions are not the best way to form opinions on the internet. You might find that there are very few of us on this board that make any claims about being a professional driver or anything even close to it. Some of us are just getting interested in something that we _might_ end up pursuing as a hobby.

Here's a question for you. How does one learn something while skipping the "I'm a beginner" part? We aren't all born professional drivers and we don't all have the oppurtunity to spend our childhood preparing for a racing career.

Please refrain from taking comments made by 1% - 2% of evolutionm.net's user base and turning them into the majority's "issue".

Kthx

How many will be relying on their Gran Turismo race time experience to push their Evo's to the limit? I'm going to log a bit more time just to be safe.

ROFL! Roger that. I need to go back and run a few laps with AYC and ACD turned off.

Yes, there is always that "I'm a beginner" stage.....which leads to my "why the hell is everyone (not 100%, that "everyone" is a figure of speach) *****ing about needing a full racecar ...only to drive like a little girl on the streets.
