Who would win GTO TT or Evo VII (JPN)
Not trying to start an inter-rivalry or start a war, so please let's not take it there.
But who do you think would win in a street race, a GTO Twin Turbo or an Evo VII. What are your oppinions. And as far as performance figures, were talking stock trim.
GTO TT= 320hp 320lbs. Weight=Damn near 3800lbs
Evo VII= 276hp 282lbs. weight=3200

We'll be watching this one, so keep it clean guys.
IMO, I think the Evo would win in a 1/4 mile race since it averages around 290-300hp in reality plus AWD will help with the launch on street tires. Top speed and highway acceleration will go to the GTO for sure. Keep in mind that the near 4000 lbs of weight in the GTO makes it a dog to stop or transition and those tires will be working extra hard, so on a track or autox I think I'd have a bigger smile on my face in the Evo.

Hmmmm.....this i reckon would be close. If it was a street race and assuming the EVO's stock performance, the EVO should win. Though a twin turbo GTO, hmmmmm. Na the EVO would win, for the GTO to win it would have to have some mods done to it. Go the EVO.

The best 1/4 mile time I have seen for a GTO is 13.4 from here http://www.syclone.freeserve.co.uk/rivals.htm . The best 1/4 mile for the Evolution VI Makinen from Wheels and Motor magazines is 13.2. So Lancer Evolution wins but I think the last (1999) model GTO has a top speed of about 270km/h so in that way it would beat the Lancer. Also the GTO is AWD, has fairly wide tyres, a wide front and rear track and good brakes so it should go ok especially on high speed tracks with more curves than corners but it is very heavy so the Lancer would be faster most of the time.

EDIT: just found this link again, nice picture of a 1999 GTO launching and some 0-60 and 1/4 times. http://popularmechanics.com/automoti...s/index6.phtml

Yeah... I love my GTO, but the 0-60's don't lie. The fastest I've done 0-60 in my GTO in stock trim was 5.4 seconds. I think the Evo is a much more balanced car. The GTO has a buttload of techology in it. active exhaust, electronic controlled suspension, AWD and AWS(steering). But it's also heavy as hell. It's more of a road car then anything else. It truly can hold it's own on a race track, but deep inside, I know that if were talking stock trim cars, the Evo would hang with, if not potentially beat the GTO. Hell, I have JPN videos showing a stock Evo VI hanging with a friggan F40 and a Porche GT3. And it even lead a lap before it got spanked in the straights.
I think overall, the GTO is a luxury road car, thats very quick and able to hang with the best. But the Evo is a 4 door race car, lighter weight, very stable, super car handling, and performance.
Hell, what does it matter...I'll soon own both. I love my GTO and I'm pushing 420hp, so I'm happy as a kite. And soon I'll be upgrading my turbo's to DR600 (17G equiv, but more power)
A word of caution to future EVO owners...BUY THE WARRANTY!!!!!
It will save your butt from some very expensive bills... And Don't overboost, or you will blow your ride up. Especially for those newbies that have never owned a turbo car before and get boost happy.
