RSX TYPE S VS. EVO VII
RSX TYPE S VS. EVO VII
just curious comparing the Acura RSX TYPE S and getting the EVO....by far there is no competition the EVO would win? but yet do people think the RSX is decent at 200hp 6-speed but w/o the AWD? just wondering people's suggestions
Just as a personnel preference I would never buy or own a Honda/Acura! Those cars are made for economy not for speed and I think that people who try the latter are wasteing their money. I have a few friends that have had Civics, Integras, both Type R and normal version and they had so many problems with them after they started to change parts. In my experience they are junk unless you keep them stock. Besides why pay just as much for a type R as you would for an Evo, and get no turbo and a car that really is not all that fast. My one friend just spent almost 20K on a type R and was talking **** to me how fast it was and I beat him in my 1994 Silvia and then completely crushed him when I got my Evo. Plus you'd have to be embarrassed to drive around in a Honda with all the rice around anyway's!
I drive and work on Mitsubishis daily. There is absolutelty no comparison between a Honda and a Mitsubishi when comparing their reliability, build quality and engineering. I hate to say it but Honda is in a league above. Anyone who disagrees with this statement simply has not worked on or around either of these brands. Sure the GSR is fast for the money, but it is a cheaply built car. The car is a maintence nightmere no different than the US market Eclipse when comparing reliability. Mitsubishi is trying to minimize the maintence problems during its US launch by releasing the detuned GTA. Yeah the 5 sp is great for performance, but keeping a clutch in the car for longer than 30,000 miles is a chore. The stronger newly designed automatic will hopefully prove more reliable with slightly less hp and the 225's. Gone will be the 5000 rpm awd launch during dealer test drives!
So...is the question: What's better the RSX Type S or the Evo? Or is the question: Is the RSX a good FWD car?
Well...technically and performance wise I'd say the Evo is superior. HP, torque, AWD etc. have the RSX beat.
As for the RSX Type S being a good 6 speed, yes. I've ridden shotgun in one and the car is very capable. I like Integra's body style though more. The two cars are so different and yet so similar in so many ways (K20 vs B18?)...weird yes, but that's the best to explain.

First of all, we must understand the phylosophy of these cars
Why they make it these way and that way.
Honda, they are reliable car. The Accord is one of the best sedan ever build, and so does the Civic. As far as Acura, there are no Acura in Japan. These are just marketing gimmic for Honda to be able to compete in the luxury devision.
Anyway. Honda race cars are build based on Formula 1 technology because Honda raced in that category. Look at RSX and NSX suspension technology are based on their formula 1 car.
While Mitsubishi, the race cars are based on Rally inspired technology.
So we actually try to compare 2 different cars that has a completely different functions. One of them is design to race in tarmac condition all the time, and the other one has to race in harsh condition. We see this with the Evo and the Pajero.
Bottom line is that it is not fair to compare Acura RSX with an EVO or even WRX. It is like comparing an SR-71 spy plane with Space Shuttle.
My 2 cents.

200 hp from a NA 4 banger production car is pretty damn good. I know from experience that honda's are almost bullet -proof when it comes to quality. I seriously doubt that any other manufacturer can even comes close.
Evo's will beat the type-R anytime under any conditions given that the drivers are equally capable.

Unfurtuniately I will have to disagree with you. Presently Honda is an engine supplier to F1. They provide engines to B.A.R. and Jordan and that is it. Both these teams built there own chasis and look to others to provide engines.
As for Honda using F1 technology for there suspensions. The two types of suspensions have absolutely nothing in common. The standard road car from Honda uses strut technology, Most F1 cars use a push-rod activated torsion springs with separate dampners. Some of the lower buget teams still use push-rod activated coil over dampners similar to a motorcycle piggy back shock. F1 suspension travel is in a range of 1 inch where the strut will start at over 6 inches. There is simply no conection in the two technologies.

The power output looks good on paper for the RSX but even the new Nissan Altima (family car) has much much much more output. Go test drive one for yourself....
