In fact my friend who owns one always complains about the wing making noise at high speeds.
you expect a wing not to make noise going 120mph + ?? It is splitting the air and creating downforce... a wing is not going to be silent on any kind of car at those speeds.

I've never heard a stock EVO get rejected by a dealer. All my manufacturer defects (recalls) were fixed on my EVO. Maybe I'm the only one.

Dang, all this moaning about warranty service - I doubt Subie's any better. Also, how reliable (long term) is a US new 2.5L turbocharged engine in the STI?

My .02. The majority of us mod these cars and make it difficult for the warranty department to make a claim. And those of us that may have had bad experiences to try and get the warranty dept to fix stuff that may have directly been related to some mods could have started this entire war on voiding warranties. Yes you have those dealers that are real scheisters maybe becasue their service dept is real busy doing non warranty work. Anyway, I cant understand depreciation either. Look at other makes and models for a 2 year old car and see what the depreciation is on those. What are these cars made of...gold. Everything depreciates..who cares. I have already spent thousands of dollars on mine and there is no way I am going to get that back anyway. Like it was said hundreds of times before, you dont buy these cars to keep in stock form so spending money on them is expected. There are too many toys out there to add. I am sure there is a few that keep it stock but I can think of other cars in this price range I would rather have if I were to do that. My car has never left me stranded for anything. I have seen higher priced cars broken down on the sides of roads so I am not sure where reliabilty comes in. I do hate the CEL light mostly thats my fault. LOL Nothing an OBD2 scanner cant fix. =)

I've never heard my wing flapping like the Sti's does. If you read several of the car mags, one of the knocks on the Sti is that the wing sounds like it's flapping, and my friend complains about it all the time and wishes he had a CF one like the Evo's. further I never said that it was at 120, his makes noise on the highway going 65-70mph. I'm guessing that nasti is a subaru owner and posted this to get a flame fest going.

and poor depreciation
Er, didn't the evo just get rated the best in regards to depreciation elsewhere? Maybe I dreamed it, but I thought I saw that not too long ago.

In all honesty, who really cares. there both amazing cars and I am personally glad that they decided to bring out these wonderful machines. IMHO it all comes down to personal taste when choosing between the two for most true enthusiasts.

I'm surprised they'd even be addressed in Forbes, the styling on both cars is unfortunately, pretty adolescent.

Depreciation? I was involved in a road-rage incident that killed my '03 last November with 7700 miles...the insurance gave me $27,900. I think that's pretty damn good. I think both cars are holding their value pretty well.

Reliability? Well, maybe. But most of the issues I've seen have been created by the drivers and modifications, not by Mitsubishi. I would think that would be a toss-up as well. Long term, stock-for-stock, I would think they'd both be 120,000 mile cars well-maintained, with minimal repairs required beyond normal wear-and-tear maintenance.

Build Quality? Both Evo's had a couple of rattles, but my old WRX was MUCH worse. Hell, the driver's side door lock cylinder fell into the door. When you buy a performance car with a stiff suspension, it's going to rattle a bit. But you knew that when you bought the Evo, right?

Satisfaction? I could've bought an '05 STi or another Evo. I never even went to the Subaru dealership. Enough said.

oh and BTW the reason that the Evo "barely" passed the front crash rating is due to the front mount IC. subaru has a top mount so that's why they were able to pass with a better rating. it has nothing to do with safety, so that's a little misleading to state the 2 star rating.

Dude, who cares... it's Forbes!

Look at the performance magazines and TV shows... Evo comes out on top 90% of the time because those people actually know how to properly test the car.

05 STI is a beter quality car, but I think the upcoming Mazda6 speed will be even better.

Unmodded, I could still sell my car to the dealer for 23k with 25k miles on the odometer. That's freakin good considering I paid 28k for it new and it's 1.5 years old.
