just to clear something up guys. the phraze "two-star rating (on a five-star scale) in the government's frontal side-impact crash tests" refers to side impact on the front passenger and driver locations as in a T-bone accident. it does not refer to frontal collision as in hitting a wall when going forward for example. the latter type of collision for the evo is rated 4 out of 5 stars actually (which they don't mention). the side impact for the rear passengers is also 4 star. so basically the most unsafe way to get hit in the evo is from the side in the driver and front passenger seat. oh well, at least i'll die in one of the greatest sports cars ever

example of dissatisfied customers:
my friend's buddy had an evo (got rid of it) and he "wasn't impressed with the awd" because he curbed it in snow and rain while "driving normally". he OBVIOUSLY had no idea about wtf he was talking about, as any of us know that advans are NOT for snow. i drove on them in 1" of snow (it snowed when i got out of the movies at 1am, i had no idea about the weather forecast that night) but i knew better than to drive "normally". i pretty much had to switch to super granma mode and got home safe.

<------ not really interested in what the forbes peopel think is a good car. they all drive buicks, and hondas probably. i was just reading the feb 05 car and driver, and they had another evo vs. sti comparo, and guess who won. the MR. anyway, i was explaining to the mrs, that if i had bought an STI (i was really close) i would feel retartded. i have seen probably 10 comparos, and the evo has one all but one. and the one they didnt win was in forbes. i am glad they won at something, otherwise they would all start feeling incapable of being comparable. lol.

Uh oh...we better watch out for Good Housekeeping next. We may not get their "Seal of Approval" either.

Just kidding. Who the hell cares though, its Forbes. If it was SCC or C&D or something else I'd give it a second thought but I'm not going to trust Forbes advice on cars like this.

I definately agree. My friends STI is an incredible car. It is killer fast and has neck snaping TQ. the interior is nice except the seats. they fill like captains chairs or something. I love the Evo for the Simple fact that it is a performance oriented car. If your into all out performance and don't mind a few missing things like cruise controll, nice interior, etc ect. then the Evo is definately your car. IMO of course. The main reason I like the Evo over the STI is it's ability to respond to mods. after you put exhaust and a piggy-back/ems on an Sti it startes getting exspensive. you don't have the ability to go out and add cams, cam gears ect.... unless your a skilled mechanic. My friend Sti is really fast, especially on race gas. If you have the ability to get and Xede or any type of piggy-back/EMS it really helps alot. His car is absolute stump puller. It's TQ is violent. his car seems like it's gonna brake traction in 1st gear when he takes off from a slow roll. I've never had any complaints on my car. well I take that back. it's car related, but it's the dealerships fault. they need to learn how to buff.....

Honestly, I'd be more worried if Forbes picked the Evo. We already know that the STi is geared more toward Joe Family with it's cruise control and plushy seats.

I've yet to read a single comment in an automotive magazine review of the STi that mentioned a "flapping" sound from the wing. Yes, they have complained about the wing physically moving around (probably minor oscillations up and down), but never mentioned any noise.

FWIW, my STi wing makes very little noise, even at high speed (> 120 MPH) and really doesn't seem to move around much (that I've seen).

These two mortal enemies will always do battle, at least until they bring the Skyline GT/R over here. My brother bought a STi after I purchased my Evo VIII (My twin brother...that is). Yeah, you can imagine the type of subsequent competition that envoked. Anyways, he moded the crap out of the thing. I had a lot of exposure to the car as I helped him reach his modified potential. It was obvious from the beggining that he was the underdog. He knew it and accepted it. The Evo is a more solid car. Period. He admitted it, and this coming from an STi owner. Yes, the STi offers more gadgets than the Evo VIII, but isn't that what the Evo's about? It's raw machine. It's you, the car, and the road. No excessive buttons to press or options to switch between. Well, by the time he was done, the car was cherry. It was mean as hell and there was no arguing it...well, except the people who would give him a as he drove by, which happened quite frequently. I do have a point. After spending thousands, he sold the car (for a lose, of course). Why? The STi's engine is not capable of handling what Subaru did to it. Stock STi's are blowing the #4 piston straight through the block because the engine was not designed to handle the horsepower. Now, take a modified STi, and you're screwed. The WRX transmissions are also blowing with minimal mods. It's only a matter of time until you see it happening on the STi. If you want an immature car that looks like you bought a wing and hood scoop from Pepboys...be my guest. If you want a raw machine with the stock engine capability of handling over 600 horsepower...then the Evo's for you. Oh yeah...and the real car mags will put the Evo on top almost every time.
Rock out Evo owners!

Pure speculation on your part. The WRX transmission is not the same as the STi transmission. Just because the WRX transmission has issues does not mean the STi has, or will have, those same issues.

That's funny I have been reading the STi forums almost daily for the past 2 years and have yet to read that kind of story once. I have a modified STi with nearly 25,000 miles and haven't had to take in to the dealership for anything other than an oil change. I still have stock clutch (with no slippage) as well and drive hard and launch atleast once a day. *shrug* not sure where you pulled that info from.

The new special edition ESX Subaru they are releasing (making 40) is listed at 425hp on stock engine w/ warranty, again not sure where you got your info from.

So you are saying a hood scoop and color matched wing is more immature than a carbon fiber wing and reverse scoop? Apparently you haven't seen a lot of riced out hondas, they have cf wings and reverse scoops taped on look more like evos than stis. But it is all in the eye of the beholder.

I can post the link to the SVT forum where they vote on which looks better and the STi won 65% to 35% if you want. http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...&highlight=STi

Silverstreak: Coming from a WRX back ground, I have to say that you are confusing some of the issues of the WRX with the STi.
fact: the 4 cylinder issue running lean is a rare WRX issue.
fact: the WRX 5 speed is weaker than the STi 6 speed which is know to be bullet proof.

It doesn't matter what the magazines say. Bottom line= they are both great cars capable of extremely impressive numbers. You can go back and forth on point to point all you want. It just comes down to your personal preference. The STI wins the drag race, the Evo is faster around a road course. The STI is more bearable as a daily driver, the Evo is more track suited. It doesn't matter. It's like M3 vs.911 or Mustang vs. Camaro. You buy the one buy because that one is more your style.

Tell that to all the STi guys at the Englishtown Evo vs. STi shootout. I guess you are probably talking stock vs. stock. Well, in that case, it's a driver's race.

I'm a noob here. But after reading through this post,I realized how many folks take deppriciation(sp.)so seriouly.Folks,no one in their right mind buys a NEW car for investment reasons.Buying a foreign sport compact new and expecting it to hold value(especially here in the USA)is just plain crazy. This cars are meant for fun, economical transportation and not as investments. That deparment belongs to the exotic world of rare Ferraris,Lambo's,the almighty F1s,ect..Never buy a new car and expect to not take a big hit in the wallet. It happens as soon as you drive of the car lot.And that's with 95% of all the car brands out there.Just my honest opinion.
