Valentine 1 Mounting Question

Those of you who happen to own this marvelous piece of hardware...how exactly did you mount it in your evo?

I've tried the visor mount but since visors tilt upward...I now have a valentine1 pointing at my hood -- i'm trying to rigg some space between the roof and visor with a CD holder but it's just not enough.

I'm trying to stay away from the suction cups since I just don't like the rings on the windshield. Any suggestions?

Here's how i mounted mine:

I believe Valentine One recommends on their website that the unit be mounted as high as possible on the windshield for the best coverage. So, looks like you still have to use the suction cups. My unit is mounted on the bottom of my aftermarket tintstrip for optimum coverage and peeps can't see it from the outside, so no need to remove the radar when i park the car. Any questions, PM me.

Did you cover the sides up to avoid the cops from noticing the unit?

Ya, i covered my unit with speaker box cloth "hoping" the police won't notice...Not sure how good it will work, but I assume it helps out with prying eyes into my car as well.

I use a diaper (unused!) between the visor and the roof...keeps the V1 pointing straight out at the road.

Cool I might try that trick. I have mine on the bottom corner, which works, but having it on the center would definitely give me more range. Thanks for the idea

You want your radar detector as low as possible on the window, just above the windshield wipers if you are concerned about laser. If not then anywhere is good for the k and ka bands.

I have mine mounted up behind the Mirror like skitracer - and althoguh mine isn't covered in fur - it's stood up to a break in. Someone actually smashed my dirvers window, stole my sunglasses, CDs, and Defi gauges mounted in a CH holder... but did't take the V1!

It was the bright side of my day then... that an the fact they didnt get my UTEC.

I also have the remote display mounted in place of the Clock. It's pretty trick and fits great.

Best of Luck,

-M

Any chance you could post a pic of that. Been trying to think of a nice spot to mount mine in the dash.

same, without the sound carpet. hehe. i think cops would still notice that "object" mounted there, and kinda know what it is. what else can be mounted there, for what use. but ive been followed by cops just about every time i drive, and they stop behind me too. but never once was i pulled over.

I mounted my V1 on the passenger visor using one of the roughly 1 inch thick grey foam pieces that came in the V1 box as a spacer between the roof liner and visor. Makes it just about level and the spring tension on the visor keeps it snug while driving. Color even kind of blends in with the interior. Ran the long power cord down the passenger A pillar, it was easy to conceal. Mounted the remote on the console, so unit itself does not light up, altough it is still clearly visible.

I have only had one laser alert in one month of use, so there may well be something to a lower mount for optimum laser detection. I have no clue, though, about the use of lasers by L.E. around the Sacramento area. The V1 manaul definitely says the cops point the lazer at the front grill area and the beam dispersion over 1/4 mile is only something like 4 inches.

Hope this helps.
