Car and Driver EVO vs STi
has mitsu finished a rally since the evo hit the US? yes ...maybe you forgot about the 2003 season and the fact that 2004 was a test like plokivos said. rally of spain was a good example of the 2004 season. mitsu finished that with all three evos intact minus a few dents, scratches, etc.
So evo doesn't share the body, suspension, or AWD system of ANY rally car... this is just plain stupid. the evo is the BASE for mitsus rally program. the rules state that whatever car is used during the season is to be based on a production level car. hmm production level car ....evo. if they feel the need to make changes and adjustments to create a pure rally car, then their certainly allowed to do it.
and if you still dont think its a rally car, then what would you call the evos some teams use in the production level rallies?

at least this is a test method that shows the sti is as, if not more capable then the evo in this demonstration. thing is i think they left a page out of my copy as again there was nothing about how the srt-4 is the superior car by leaps and bounds. some 16 yr old kid told me it actually won the comparo. lol.

you might want to ask yourself, if the STI was so good, why did it kill its driver and navigator by flipping over so much on a simple jump?

I could care less about the rally cars. I know my car is the **** and that's all that matters. Stock for stock, my car would rape an STI. My buddy's 350Z kills modded STIs daily. Typical STI owners.....
evo lovers attack the STi for not having a 2L engine like the rally car. Yet, I point out that the ONLY thing the evo has in common with a rally car is it's displacement (along with a dozen other imports) and you all go into denial, excuse mode.
At least STi has the same wind tunnel tested body, and the same inverted strut design that has proved so versatile. (Winning the above C&D test, and a previous mid-corner bump test)
Proving that the STi is more true to rally heritage than the evo.

I have no problem admitting the production EVO has very little in common with the rally car. I didn't buy my EVO because of the rally car, I bought it because it's fast, it has four doors (very convenient if you have children), and handles like no other car I've ever driven. I don't hate the STI, I just prefer the EVO and obviously I have a biased opinion about the two car's compared performance.
I've never been offroad in the EVO and I don't plan on taking my 30,000 dollar car "rally" racing ever on my salary. It looks fun but also expensive. I guess the next statement will be, "The STI was built with the sole purpose of being raced off road, that's why it loses to the EVO in every on road competition."
well I live in michigan so unfortunatley at least a few times a year I have to rally to get around town
I would agree that stock the STi handles better in the snow and dirt, but the evo still drive rediculously well on the snow with Blizzaks mounted. And when it comes down to it the evo and the STi are so similar it's a matter of preference. I chose the evo because I'm in love with it and it has that little sharp edge that the STi traded for comfort.
