HELP!! - JDM Headlights on an Evo 8 w/ HID!
Ok so I fell for the trap of purchasing aftermarket headlights assuming all would be good when I open the box and plug them right in. ERRRRRRR wrong!!! These so called Plug N Play JDM Evo VII Headlights will not plug n play in your 03 Evo 8 with HID's.
Before I go into real detail let me tell you the craphole I am truly in. I spun out on ice a month ago and shattered my front left headlight. Finding the price on one I did my best to find a set of MR Headlights to match the MR Taillights I now have but was unsuccessful. Needless to say I have purchased the JDM Evo VII/7 Headlights. Once purchasing these and viewing from multiple vendors as a plug and play headlight I went ahead and sold my right OEM headlight ERRRRR wrong move again!!!!! So here I am with 2 none working JDM headlights and one beatup OEM one that still worked but is in over a hundred pieces. *hint* the bulbs and HID ballast are all still good.
My plee to anyone who knows is - can I purchase the butts of both harnesses to make my own connector and not splice any wires from Mitsu?? Since the colors match up on both wiring harnesses can I use those??? Will I loose the high beams cause that is a totally different connector and bulb?
Let me explain the harnesses while you ponder your thoughts.
EVO 8 OEM Harness = 8 wires
Black/white - HID Ballast
Black/red - HID Ballast
Green - Motor for headlight
Orange - Motor for headlight
Blue - Motor for headlight
Brown - Power for bottom turn signal
Red - Power for upper turn signal
2 blues into solid black - ground for both turn signals
*Note* - I am leaving out the High beam and fogs
JDM Evo VII Harness = 4 wires
Black/white - H4 Bulb power
Black - ground all bulbs
Red - Power for upper turn signal
Browm - Power for bottom turn signal
*Note* - I am leaving out the High beam and fogs
If anyone has done this conversion and been successfull please help me out.
NOTE: I want to make these work in a Halogen state, NOT HID . . . . . at least for now.

The Evo VII have no HID's. The 'plug n play' is far from true. Supposedly the HID was a $2g option in Japan for the 7's.
I am afraid to splice just incase it doesn't work. I wanted to see if anyone has gotten this to work successfully before I am the first.

**Note - the bulb that I will miss are the fog lights . . . . . . not the high beam. I had them backwards. Kinda good since I never used em but as how things have been working out lately I will be dying for them soon . . . . . . . . if I can an even drive at night anytime soon with out spending 2400 bucks.

now remember this is the JDM Evo VII headlights not the MR. The conversion for this will require baking/removal of the facecover and cutting of the holes for the fog lights and the HID ballasts. I think I saw that conversion to get the fogs to work but it was for the MR Headlight conversion.
I appreciate all the help thus far. Keep it coming.
as the name says . . . BUMP!!

Here are some pictures to help with visuals. I am not going to take apart the EVO VII wiring harness just yet. If you look close you can see it but hopefully from the initial post you can get the idea of what it would be color wise.
Thanks again for all of the help

those JDM's look like they came off a evo without the sun sound & leather package. for example. i dont have it on my evo8 so there is no spot for the fog for hole for the ballast. so im gonna assume these jdm evo7 harness's werent ment for HIDS or fogs.

I agree completely. I didn't think that option was availabe until 2005. Didn't the 04's come with the HIDs regardless if you bought that package or not.
Either way all of these vendor's sites need to change what they state about them. All claim that they are a direct plug and play headlight for your Evo 8.
Escoson - Have you ever removed your headlight?? If you have or have not is there a way you can look under the hood behind your headlights and see the number of wires coming from your main harness to the headlights? I am curious if I can buy the Evo 7 headlight harness from Mitsu or not. If I can it would allow me to create harnesses instead of destroying harnesses.
Again I appreciate all of your help.
