Crazy? The Boston chapter of BMWCCA has ice-racing events! It sounds awesome and I hope to do it next year.

you only need 10 inchs of ice to safely hold the weight of the car.

You southerners wouldn't understand, but the ice in NE Wisconsin gets upwards to two feet thick or more, trust me, it can support LOTS of weight. Only thing you need to worry about, at least on the bay where I live on, is ice shoves, they can get maybe 30 feet high, also gotta look out for little ice shoves that'll throw you're car/snowmobile several feet in the air. Great times!

Scotland?

Somewhere in northern europe.

Apperently that was a ice race where a spectator/compeditor decided to take a shortcut through a piece of the lake that hadnt been inspected and he payed the price.

Its really old, but It fits this thread well

Make sure you know what your doing driving on ice

Cute.

It seems nuts, but people do it all the time up here.

Talking

I'm also from minnesoooota. been on alot of frozen lakes for alot of years, no big deal. but, was out on lake milacs about ten years ago... fyi, HUGE lake. me and my buds were ice fishing, drunk of course. we all fell asleep..

then WHAMMMM. our ice fishing house jumped up and down probably about a foot. bunk beds fell over. wtf. water rushing into and around our fishing house.. scary as a mo fo. my one outdoorsie friend was like, don't worry just a pressure ridge.. he was all calm and ****..

basically the lake cracked in a big way about 30 yrds from our house.. we're talking about a 1/2 mile long crack, and one side of the lake was about 2 feet higher than the other.. all the locals were out there building bridges over the cracks.. funny ****..

i would love to take you 'southerners' water skipping(snowmobile) across the st. croix river..

bug..

btw, getting a new evo very soon:-)

Throughout Canada they regularly drive 18-wheelers over frozen lakes.
