Exclamation Interesting Article...A little dated but informative

I got a copy of AUTOWEEK from Sep '04 from my chiropractor (he's somewhat of an auto enthusiast too). Anyway, they compare the '04 RS with the Golf R32.... The article declares the RS a solid winner in performance over the R32, but they prefer the ride and general comfort of the Golf...... Anyway, what I found most interesting was the performance numbers they got from the cars. Although the numbers are not nearly as good as what other magazines and some folks in the forums report, they are probably more in line with what a lot of ppl experience... I found that my EVOs are more in line with the performance of the AUTOWEEK tests that the much better numbers reported elsewhere.

Bear in mind that this article is in no way derogatory to the EVO. On the contrary, they see it as a clear outperformer and an excellent car. They prefer the R32, but their reasons make sense (if they compared the GSR or MR instead of the RS, they might have chosen differently). Also, they just don't get the same numbers that others do.

When i had my 03 my first drive on the 1/4 miles was 13.6 something. How in the world did they get 14.5? I bogged the car and made 14.1 sec pass. If they can't even drive straight I wonder how did they test out in auto x and track

My first run at the 1/4 mule track yielded a time of 14.3XX. At that time I had a K&N filter and 3" cat back exhaust. I got down to 13.00 @ 106 after modifying the crap out of it. Maybe I'm not a good driver, but I think a lot of people have stock EVOs that run in the mid 14 seconds in the 1/4 mile.......
