Maybe because they are out of business.

yes, all lan-evos starting from IV-VIII have left hand drive version. one of the 'official' TMEs released in the philippines doesnt have the usual TME stripes. though you can opt for those aethetic upgrades. afaik, lan-evo VI TME averages Php 1.6M or $29K (w/out tax, doc, shipping)
im also interested on how to make these previous lan-evo driven legally.

I went to the most recent evo meet here in northern VA and someone was driveing a legit evo 6.5 TME

It was left hand drive so at first I was skeptical but every fit too perfectly and looked to clean to be a converted mirage

I will see if I can find pics of the car...

Just because the guy told you his Evo 6.5 is legit, it doesn't mean the car is really legit.

Unless the guy has the paperwork in his hands to prove it, don't believe everything you are told.

The guy you are refering to is a dcevoclub member. Its a legit 6.5 TME Rally Red with the Ralliart stripes. Thats one of the reasons I asked the question about this one. I am working with an importer still waiting to see what he can find.

friend of mine does have a legal TME and it took over six months to get the car processed into the US. As far as I know converting a "racing only" to a street legal is going to be hard - you should try to convert to "display only" first. Check out the following link:

This link is specific about "Racing Vehicle". Read the bottom line.

Other people said that it's legit so I'm not second guessing you. However just because a car is registered and has insurance does not mean that it is legal.

As far as I know, Evo 1-7 is a gray market car = illegal in the US. It did not meet all the federalized standards. If you somehow legalized it, it'll only last one year . . . exception = show or race only venures w/ almost indifinate period (maybe wrong from my knowledge). Of course, you have to back it up w/ paperwork.

IMO, the DOT is almost as zealous as the IRS chasing after tax evaders.

To see if it's a mirage conversion or not, most swappers don't change the firewall plates. My friend and I did that in a car show . . . there was a red TME was good enough to full all the local dsm'ers who look under the hood and chassis. Of course, the owner denied it and closed the hood for everyone else. It's doesn't take much effort to look at the firewall plate.

Not entirely true but close enough. LHD cars are a little easier then RHD cars.
