Now thats hard core! I too have this problem with modding or having the need to mod. Once you start, you can't stop!

Maybe a ticket or a big cc debt will slow you down?

It dosn't stop just because your done with your car. its just an excuse to get another car and call it your "daily driver" so you can go even further with the mods. One day your new car gets beat by a civic at a stop light, then you start mods on the "daily driver". at some point you decide to sell the first car to pay for mods on the second car and sell it for atleast half of what you've put into it. Soon the second car is a B***h to drive in traffic so you get a new "daily driver" and the cycle continues.
Or your really sick and consider your cars part of the family. in which case you keep all of them and you pay insurance on cars you hardly get a chance to drive.

Admitting that you have a problem is the first step to recovery.
It is a life long battle and it is not easy. There will be lapses and the occasional binge modding. Few are successful at quitting their first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, or even seventh time.

Careful when falling off the wagon as there will be a temptation to mod that too!

The only whay I've found to keep limits on "mod-itius" is to sit down and create a clear plan for everything you plan to do to the car; everything. I did this with my Evo almost two years ago and realised that I wanted to spend almost 20K in aftermarket upgrades on my car - ouch! Then I got rid of the stuff that really I really did't need, or that wasn't aimed at helping the car go faster. That cut the list down to about $15K, which is still alot of cash, but something I can spread out over time.

I've been following that plan, and I'm about 10K into mods at this point. The only "non-plan" mod I've added was a rear undercar diffuser (less than $500), but it wasn't available when I made my plan. I do need to add a couple new items to my plan (stroth harnesses and the MR diffuser) but I have been able to keep my spending strictly on plan.

I still had to let my wife know that I planned on spending 15K on upgrades, and we had to work that into our budget. She's awsome though, and doesn't mind too much. Of course she expects me to convert a WRX to a front mount for her (when she picks one up to replace her current car) and stealth it out for her...

NO HELP FOR YOU! haha i guess suffer like the rest of us, we all got it bad. having additional expenses is hard like gfs and houses and loans and college and whatever else life wants to charge you for. be careful tho... once you get beyond like... maybe 350... you'll worry about driveline failure and that's the kind of expensive and futility that you may not wanna venture towards. i mean unless you want tre to build yer tranny .

a ticket would only make you more cautious about speeding, not stop it...

You can join a support group but not on this forum. Because we just feed the addiction.

haha, yea right, then he would just take that money he got from selling his car, and buy another one, since he prob needs one to get to work....and i am sure he is gonna want something cool....which will lead him to modding again... haha
