So I live in Crystal Lake, IL and I was turning onto rt.14 from Main Street and some *** cop pulls me over. I ask him what I did wrong and he goes on to say that I don't have a front plate and my exhaust is altered. WTF altered? I have a dump back exhaust but I still got the cat on does that make it illegal? Crystal Lake cops have NOTHING better to do that harass people who drive imports. Well he only gave me a warning on both but still get a life!

lol dude, i have a cat back exhaust on both my cars, there both STREET LEGAL and ive been pulled over atleast 4-5 times on them being illegal, i actually got pulled thursday night leaving school cuz the ***** said i have an "altered vehicle". all cops are like that.

 

i live in a pretty suburban area ,but the thing is -all the surrounding burb' area racers come to my neighborhood to street race so i have to drive pretty slow or ill get harassed,i know what your saying,just drive cool and theres nothing to get popped for

 

they can charge you for the front plate if you didnt' have it on, but the exhust you can fight in court but i dont think both ticket give you driving potins so i would just pay for it

 

I got a lot of warnings since I got my 03 last year for my exhaust. I got away with a couple of extremely stupid tickets from cops who profiled my car.

One thing I been doing is when a cop tailgates me is to, change lanes with my signal, and dont speed. If the cop tailgaites me again, I change lanes again. This will definitelly **** them off. I got pulled over for this couple days ago and the cop tried to write me up for my exhaust. He asks why I change lanes so many times. I told him he was pressuring me to speed, and felt he was going to entrap me. I also asked him if he profiled me because I drive a car like mine. Soon later he got freaked out from all the **** I was talking to him about, he gave me my license back ::P::

ARGH Illinios cops suck in the burbs...I live in Buffalo Grove and right next to Lake Zurich and let me tell you...these guys have competitions within the precints to see who can give out the most tickets!

 

State of NH rules USED to be no modification that increases the DB level more then 1db over factory sound. So pretty much if a cop saw a aftermarket exhuast. BANG ticket!! So dont think just cause you have a Cat your exhuast is legel, try searching your local records, or check your warning to see the RSA# he quoted then do some research on the wording in the law. If it is a noise law, then take it to court and fight it when you do get a ticket, if he didnt use a DB meter then he has no right to be giving you a ticket, i beat 3 tickets when i had my eclipse. As of Jan 1st they have repealed the law in NH for modification to the exhuast, it is only illigal to remove the cat now in NH. I keep a copy of the repealed law in my glovebox to show the nice cops when they still try to ticket me.....

I'm glad H-Town is harrasment free for the most part. I've never heard of anyone getting harrassed for exhaust systems and such. The front plate issue is hit or miss.

 

always fight the tickets if you get them. laws are written back in the old days. when i had my FWD eclipse i had gotten an "exhibition of speed" ticket (tires squealing, burnout, etc...) & won because the law said "when the rear wheels lose traction & squeal or slide that is exhibition." i told the judge my car is FWD & he dismissed the case. cop was pissed!!! i was making a turn at a light doing 40 on worn out asphalt hence the squealing.

 

I honestly do think its some level of profiling.. I have gotten pulled over for no front plate, and once for speeding. But never for any other "Equipment violation"..

Once I was pulled over and they basically were asking me a ton of questions about the car, how cool it was etc.. Let me go ultimately with a front plate ticket instead of a speeding ticket (I admitted to them I was speeding, but only to pass a slow moving car operating erratically, which was the absolute truth)

 

i had been in IL many times in the past, the cops there comparing to other places, yeah, are very ****, and f**king arrogant. they spit into your face when talking and they behave like s**t. not good symbol or role model for citizen.

 

heh, I wonder if the cops would harass harley davidson riders about their loud-*** exhaust as much as they harass import car owners. Bastards...
