You're witty comebacks are pretty funny. Fact remains that you get what you pay for. Sorry you don't agree.

Pretty true statement when it comes to coilovers.

For those of you that are bashing on 992gnt (Greg)..he is simply giving his opinion. No need to call names I'm sure he has more race experience than most others in this thread. We raced together all year in SCCA ESP with our Evos. I know for a fact he pays for all he has..he doesn't live at home with mommy and daddy

The cars all us evo freaks own are street cars. The coil overs in question are Omnipower street setup. There is no reason they should clank, clunk or sqeak period. Omnipower,or any other manufacturer know that 75-95% of these set ups are for weekend racers (Street cars),
If you want to be a COMPETITIVE weekend racer you better have a nice "race" setup. Go race in a weekend long solo II division race and see how well you do with a mediocre setup. If you never race just save your money and get a nice lowering spring. I've had good luck with Tanabe springs...but I'll be running Zeals this year.

Anyway back on topic....good idea for the rubber gasket. If you daily drive your Evo and don't like noises it would be a great mod. Thanks for posting up the info.

Coilovers

I have raced this car 2 times this year , once at Watkins Glen and another time at Limerock.
For the money these coilovers are nice. And yes the main reason was to lower the car and get the exact hight I wanted. I have 19x9 Racing Hart J5 wheels for the street and I wanted a good stance.

Well the clunk is still there. I pulled out the coilovers for now and spoke to Greg at GSC.
He was nice enough to speek to Steve at omnipower and I will send the rears back
to have them checked out. That is great customer support!! Thanks GREG...

I would be concerned that your rubber mount would not allow you to tighten the bolts as much as they were designed to be...this could get you in trouble. I would also be concerned that this coudl slide around and mess with your camber and not ever really sit right. There is a good reason Omnipower made their coilovers this way. My friends all have Tein's and they clucnk, rattle, and make all kinds of noises.

You may get what you pay for, but you also have to expect a few things when you go to something that alters the car from stock so much. Like these idiots that complain about a big turbo and too much lag...I mean really what did you expensive. Every aftermarket has compromises. This may be one of them.

Honestly, I would be concerned with placing a low durometer rubber between my strut mount and the chassis. This rubber will probably deform under load and the nuts holding the top of the strut could lose contact with the chassis. Let this happen a few times and the nuts could very well loosen and result in some suspension failure as well as more noise.

Call me paranoid, but this doesn't seem like the best solution. Some manufaturers do use rubber isolators on the spring hats though, but most are custom molded to the strut/shock. The rubber you have looks like ths stuff you line a tool box with.

My 2 cents.

he made the rubber piece in his garage....that is why we are questioning how good it is.

If the manufacturere thought you should have it then they would have provided it. I would see the manufactuer could void the warranty on an item that you modified in such a way.

Wow you guys are sooooo funny. Im trying to figure out this noise with what ever I can.
With or without the rubber the strut makes a VERY LOUD clunking noise.
It turns out that another EVOM member had the same problem and the strut was DEFECTIVE.
Omnipower replaced it and he has had no noise since.
These struts are allways working in the fully extended state. They seem to have a topping out
problem.I have had many other coilovers in other cars like Koni,Billstein and never had this
noise. I have good faith in Omnipower into helping me with this.

I just hate to see you suggesting ideas to other members if they don't fully understand what could happen with an insert like you made. Rather you should of called Omnipower first to get a replacement, os asked them about using the sound deadening material. That would be better, I'm not flaming you.
