Why can't evo be made here
Why can't evo be made here
with all these monthly shipments money adds up and it does not seem like an effective way to sell a car..would cost be much higher if evos were made here?

If the Evo's were made here we might be paying higher prices because of labor costs. Since the cars may be made in Japan, they (the Japanese workers) are paid higher salary, but the use of technology is higher. Meaning the US uses more workers at high pay, when the Japanese pay HIGH salaries but use more machines, meaning less workers need to be used. Does that make sence? Basically, it boils down to, we would pay higher prices because of labor costs. ( Im an Economics Major, but i hardly pay attention

why the hell would you want a badass Japanese car like the Evo to be made here? It wouldn't be a true Japanese car, now would it? not only that, it would end up being an unreliable POS, since anything american is poor quality nowadays
Why would you want us to build the EVO. That car is a Japanese designed supercar and should therefore be built by them on their shores. They would build it better anyway. They have more pride and dedication in their products and customers.
For the Honda fans....would you want your "limited model" TypeR built by some dude who makes 520 cubic inch engines for 40 hp/litre????
And that 2.5L Subaru STi must have been designed by some muscle head. Junichi would have a heartattack if he had to tweak a 2.5L STi. Jesus...they couldnt have left it a 2.0L ???

The reason it isn't built in the US, meaning the need to change from economies of scale to economies of scope, is just what Vulgar racer said: Unions. These people all need work. Plus Mitsubishi wouldn't be in their own facilities, they wouldn't have the liberty of changing everything for the production of a single car.
I could go on why it would be beneficial for Mitsubishi to do what you are saying, but i doubt you guys want a lecture on capitalism, globalisation, the move from Fordism to post- fordism.
In the end, it's a japanese made car, its reputation in the World rally course and its quality are one of its biggest marketing advantages. You change that and a lot of people won't buy it.
