back on topic for a second, I read all the previous posts from 05 and all I just got a TurboXS Turboback with cat delete and I have noticed a faint smell of gas/exhaust smell. I put my AC on full blast and nothing out of the ordinary came out of there. I heard that sometimes it can come through your vents. I asked a couple of my boys last night if i might have a gas leak and they said that cuz I have a test pipe I would smell it a lil along with the burning smell. Once I get outside that's another story with the smell but that doesn't bother me once I'm inside. How do you check for an exhaust leak once the car is lifted?

i used to run catless with my old cars.

Now with the Evoi haven't persuaded myself to get a testpipe...

when i first modified my exhaust i got the UR ceramic cat. now that i want more power i got the randomtech metallic unit which is rated at 617cfm... i can get a little bit more power and still be legal (in a way)...

And i don't think that the extra 5-6whp that i might gain from a testpipe worth the deadly fumes and the tickets i wouldget if i would get caught with a testpipe...

If you track the car then ok get the testpipe... If you drive the car every day and especially in the cities, 5whp or even 10whp doesn't worth all the negatives the testpipe has...

IMO, I think cops should check for a cat conv.s more often.
I'd be writing up tickets left and right to ppl that didn't run them.
Being behind a car w/o a cat sucks, and you can't always pass.

I agree. The earth cycles between warm periods and cool periods every couple hundred years. The average temperatures can very as much as +/- 4-7*F or so if I recall correctly. It does not seem like much, but the extreme temps are where it really gets you. Right now we very well might be experiencing a warming trend, but is it different from anything the earth has seen in the past.. probably not.

You could be experiencing a sensitivity to unburned hydrocarbons which is causing nausea and headaches. Everyone's limit here is different and this I would say would be the primary cause. The nausea and headaches you are experiencing could also come from CO and/or CO2. And like it was said already, a cat does nothing to reduce CO and CO2. So if CO/CO2 is the culprit, you would have nausea and headaches with the cat as well. You could also be experiencing effects of increased NOx. Without the cat you will have no NOx reduction. NOx has a short term exposure limit (15 minutes or less) of only 5ppm. This means that a relatively small amount will begin to effect you rather quickly. The direct effects to human health vary with NOx exposure. In addition NOx compounds cause atmospheric rations that create harmful particular mater, smog, and acid rain. So a cat will help some environmental and health concerns but definitely not global warming (if you believe in it).

Late 80's hype?? We'll I'd rather not get into that one.

Man you guys are pussies! Have you ever been in a muscle car, an old VW or even a diesel for god's sake? Waa waa waa! I smell fumes! Mommy I got a headache! Haa haa ha!

What do you think happens to all that brown stuff that would get on on your bumper when you run a cat? It builds up inside your cat, restricting your exhaust more and more until finally your engine just explodes! See? So cats are evil.

I think this global warming phenomenon has less to do with cars and is more directly related to my to my taco bell addiction that anything else. 7-layer burrito anyone?

catless

if you get pulled over and it is discovered with no cats, federal law allows for 5000USD ticket per cat removed, not to mention potential legal trouble, i feel sorry for the STI guys, they have 2 of them.

You know, I can't really tell through the thick marijuana smoke whether my exhaust is leaking or not. Sometimes I do feel a little light headed, though....

There is so much mis-information in this thread it isn't even funny:

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/catalytic-converter.htm
http://www.randomtechnology.com/technical.html

Do everyone a favor and educate yourselves. CO does get transformed into CO2 via an oxidation catalyst. Not to mention there are other detergents mixed into the fuel that produce other gasses.

Global Warming is a problem and even the National Science Foundation came to the consensus that the cyclical climate changes we see over hundreds of years have shifted. Shifted much higher than they have in the past, which is alarming.

People should go out and watch "An inconvenient truth" and take it for what its worth ...
