What wire is this?...(pic)

As you've probably read, my evo was broken into and had its radio stolen. Now I'm trying to piece the car back together without going through insurance if possible, since it may be cheaper than my $500 deductible. Surprisingly, the turbo timer still works, minus buttons and sound. I'm just going to stick the factory radio back in.

Those bastards cut some wires back behind my dash. One of them is a ground to my radio. The other one, which I'm holding in the picture below...I have not a clue what it is. Can someone tell me what wire this is? I cannot trace the origins of it, since it just goes way back behind the dash. The only other description I can give is that the two bundles of wire do not look the same in each side. One side has more wire in it, with an extra few layers of shielding.

It is kinda hard to tell from the picture but if I had to guess it looks a little bit fatter than the rest so I would say it is the wire that goes to the radio antenna. It normally has a "male" plug on the end of it. Use process of elimination to see if you have the one I am talking about and if not then I would bet this is it.

Ah, that makes sense. I dont have a radio to test it on right now. Damn, now I gotta rewire the whole antennae too?

I am just taking a shot in the dark but if it does end up being the antenna wire I would attempt to find one in a junk yard and cut off the end with as much slack as possible and the just splice it together. It shouldn't really effect the signal and those plugs are pretty much universal so you could take your pick of about any one you find.

Good point but really why would they cut any wires....they all pretty much just unplug but I guess when you are in the heat of the moment theiving some one else's stuff you just cut what ever seems to be caught up.

Sure you can splice them togeher? One of the bundles has some shielding layer to it.

It's the antenna lead.I wouldn't recomend splicing because it is an amplified antenna and any break in the shielding can allow interference. It might be a pain but if it were me I would replace it. It runs up the left "A" pillar and down the left side roof rail. I suppose it depends on how particular you are about engine noise in your music.

It's definately the antenna and the reason they probably cut it is because it fits very snugly and is kind of a pain to squeeze your hand in there and pull it out (voice of experience). It's probably much quicker for them to cut any wires which don't come out easily, and it's not like they care about what you have to deal with afterwards.
