Hitting 3rd in MR?
I have driven a 6sped MR this weekend with 4500miles. Compared to my 03 gsr it's a bit notchyer but I have 18K now. I think a little more time driving and slowing the shift will smooth out the tranny.

Yea it happened to me recently. I couldnt figure it out. I just really drove my car dis weekend. It only has 1800 miles on it. I couldnt put it into third at all for a bit. It was just like that for a day. Now everything is back to normal I had no clue what happened.
I will take it out tonight and see if the palm method works. I just hope if it's broken, mitsu doesn't give me crap about the warranty. I don't have any mods yet. I want to make sure everything is good before I mod it. I have a feeling the clutch is gonna be the first mod since the stock one seems to be struggling already. I don't even want to launch it cause it struggles so much. I'll keep you updated.

You guys should read the manuals more often. It is stated that the transmission needs to warm up and will grind a little before the fluid gets warmed up. Also, it is recommended that one should drive the car slowly in first gear, especially when it is cold to let the lubricant get to all the vital moving parts before driving it normally. On colder days when the car is first started, 1st-2nd shift will grind for a while but it will go away as the fluids get warmed up. If it persists even after the fliud is warmed up, you may have a synchro going out. In this case you should either:
1. Take it to the dealership to get it fixed
2. Try using some Pennzoil or BG synchroshift
Also, for the guy having the issue with shifting into 3rd check to see if the shifter fork/ shaft that goes into the transmission is properly aligned. If thats the case, then its a simple alignment issue to fix. Similar thing happened to a friend of mine, that had a ACT clutch installed. It was a pain to get into 2nd ..... its worth a try ... hope that helps....

Check with the dealer maybe there's another recall for the 6 speed just like the 2003.

i used to get notchiness from first to second, but as i accumulated more miles and adjusted the clutch pushrod it went away. what's weird is that the tranny always shifts smooth when I'm at WOT, shifting fast. the notchiness was always happened when i was going slow.

I have exactly the same issue, it s just weird. but i found out it s just a question of timing, now it s always smooth, but more so when i bang thru the gears
shiftin gearz...
NEVER a problem with being "locked" out of third or any other gear....but i think it feels really "notchy" between 1st to 2nd & 2nd to 3rd... i've found that holding below the shift knob, right around your reverse "lock out" helps make everything smoooth
(i only notice the "notchy" feeling when i'm drivng like my mom)

same here intermittent notchyness from 1st to 2nd and rarely 3rd, shoddy a$$ gear box
design planning to use bg sychroshift soon. have about 1200 miles on the clock, never have problems like these on my toyota manual trans.

Well, I think you guys called it pretty well. I tried it tonight like you guys said, holding the shifter a little lower. I had two in a row go right into gear at 6K plus. I was also shifting a little slower than normal, so that might have been a factor. I feel so stupid that I didn't know how to shift this car. It really is a different feel than most other shifters I've had(pro5.0,B&M,hurst,a couple stockers). Is it because it's counterbalanced? On a side note, where is the best rpm to shift the Evo's? I apparently am one of the people who doesn't have a rev limiter. I would like to know the optimum shift points then try to hit third at those. Thanks for the great advice guys.
