Hitting 3rd in MR?

Sup folks,
Anyone having trouble hitting third gear in their MR? I cannot get it into third at high rpms. My friend drove it and had the same problem. Is there a problem with the 6 speeds? I even notice it seems to block the gear out under normal cruising once in a while. Bad synchros maybe? Thanks for any help!

Hmmmm...
It does go into 3rd if I shift really slowly, but that's no fun! Well I guess it won't hurt to wait a little bit to see if it breaks in. I have only shifted at high rpms a handful of times. It just seems weird that it goes into 2nd,4th easily when running hard but 3rd is 1out of 5 at best. Thanks for the advice fellas!

I thought it might just be me, but my friend tried and said something was messed up. He is a mechanic and runs a large service and high performance dept. at a dealer. It seems like it's just not right going into 3rd even at 2500rpms. It feels like its bouncing off the gate, like a bad synchro.

I have no problems with any of the gears except 2nd, when cold out it feels a bit notchy. Maybe you should visit the dealership asap, thats if you're still stock.

Not one problem with the MR, now my 04 RS started grinding second the 2nd day I had the car and never stopped, but knew I wanted the 6 speed so never took it in.

One thing I have learned about shifting is that there is a technique involved. If I push with the palm of my hand I always hit third. If I try any other way, occassionaly I will miss it ...

That's the same technique I use, works all the time.

I have about 500 miles on my 2005 MR, and the transmission is a "little notchy", but I figure this will get better over time and when the temperature warms up here in Minnesota.

Most manual transmissions are a little notchy or STIFF for a while until you shift and drive the car alot more to break it in. I have found this to be true on all manual transmission cars from my 92 Z28 5spd., 95 Z28 6spd., 91 B4C RS 5spd., 2003 MazdaSPEED Protege 5spd., etc.

Mine was shifting a little hard for the first little while. It shifts pretty smooth now at 960 miles. I'm sure it'll get better.

you should go get it checked. One of the reasons is most likely that your car is not warm up enough yet. My 05 gsr usually doesn't want to go to 2nd gear in the morning lol.
I have to press clutch and shift 1 and 2 a few times to make it warm up(dunno if this will damage anything). After that, everything is smoooooth...
