Think about it.....reviewers/testers
I was thinkin of something when a friend asked me why i chose the EVO over the STI after driving both. I casually explained my opinion on the lack of headroom or legroom in the rear (and evn in the front for me), overrated power, lack of stereo, horrible bodyroll/handling, etc etc
I got into an intense argument with the subie fanatic, and ended up stumping hgim with this question: WHY is there such an intense battle between the EVO GSR and the WRX STI, when infact the 5 speed lower power-rated evo GSR can keep up with the 6speed 300hp STI and beat it in most all allaround tests! THE TESTS SHOULD LOGICALLY be done between the MR to the STI, think about it! BOTH 6 speeds, BOTH 300 hp! Yet the step down, lower powered, $5000 cheaper GSR is still keeping up and winning most of the tests done!
Someone please explain, whether it be evo owners or sti's. I can understand the release date and how the GSR and the STI came out around the same time period, but if you think about the components a of the car, the MR vs STI is the EQUAL match
PS I AM NOT attemting to dig up the endlessly buried grave of the evo vs sti battle, im just admiring and questioning the outcome and challengers!

let me correct you the mr is not 300hp..
i agree with you on the leg and head room, that was really a big factor as well, i'm 6'3.5" and my legs just do nothing but hit the steering wheel when the seat is all the way back.. i also agree theres way less body roll, and way better handling, but then again, like i always say, you can't go wrong with either one

I dont think it matters
Either Evo is so close in comparison that it is down to driver skill. A better driver will make a faster car. There is not really a "better" car anyways. My good friend bought the STI and I bought an Evo. His cars stereo is nicer. It rides quieter and feels more "civilized" and slightly more luxurious. My car will kill his car in any race type comparison. I have also spent around 2k in parts so far and just spent another 7k today. I bought my car to make a race car. He bought his to drive normally and beat every once and awhile. Each car has it's tradeoffs.

Because the MR just came out and the VIII or GSR has been here for 2 years and has won every magazine comparison. Now that the MR is here this year they have been testing the two cars against each other and guess what the Evo wins again

They put down about the same as a stock STi
My 2c
well considering the STi/EVO battle has been going on for years in other countries it just seems logical to continue it here. The MR is a special edition so in some ways it's not far to compare the two since you have a S.E. car vs a standard model. Then again the MR does have the 6MT and is closer to the STi in terms of components. either way the cars are so close it just comes down to what brand you want in the end.
