Small or big wing??

While on one hand, I'm very into the sleeper look as well, but on the other, I agree that it just doesn't seem like an Evo without the big wing, hence that'll be appearing on my Evo, most definitely. I also agree that most of the primer-grey wings on ricers are absurd, but when it's very well done (albeit being somewhat of a rarity), even if only for cosmetic purposes, they can look pretty nice.
most people won't know what kind of car it is no matter if it has a big wing or a small one...probally 80-90% of people could care less

Yes, you're right of course, but I'm not referring to other people at all. It simply doesn't look right to ME without the big wing and I'm the one I'm most trying to impress with my car
. If other people love it or hate it isn't too terribly important to me (most definitely not the massing sheep one encounters on the road day in and day out). I'm certainly not discounting the utilitarian aspect either as I intend on doing some serious track use.

the cops down here will pull u over and give u a good talking to...a freind with a STOCK civic Si exhaust was told it was too loud..i can imagine how much attention i would get with that wing and the evo exhaust note
Paint this picture:
Guy in Camaro or Firebird or ricer or whatever sees your car. Probably the domestic people don't know what the heck an Evolution is. They SEE the big wing. They think that you are thinking you have a fast car. They don't think that. You slaughter them off the line time and time again

Then there is the E30 M3 rear wing...
That was my old car...miss it but not the maintenance which was GOOFY expensive..
It looks purposeful, but very "boy racer"..
Still, this is a car like the EVO with a very successful racing heritage....
It's decided...
Mine will have the wing!

I have to make a disclaimer:
It's a matter of taste - those who like it will, and those who don't won't. Probably 90% of the Evos (and STi's) to come off the line will never see the 120mph+ speeds at which most spoilers become truly functional (other than creating drag).
My take?
The large spoiler is a decided part of the character of the car. Beyond the front fascia (which isn't THAT different from a standard Lancer) and the wheels, it's what differentiates an Evo from a standard Lancer.
Beyond that, the Evo ISN'T a sleeper. It wasn't ever intended to be. If you want an AWD sleeper, dig up a Galant VR-4 and tune it (I've seen one dyno, in person, to over 600fwhp {halfshaft disconnected, of course}). Look at the history of the Evo's styling.
Loud.
Obnoxious.
In your face.
Hell, that's what I like about it. If I wanted to not be noticed, I'd be tooling around in something with no pretensions about performance at all, like a G35 Coupe or some such thing. Not that I wouldn't mind a G35... heh..
I saw big wing all the way, on my blue Evo. Or maybe my black STi, I'm undecided (but leaning towards Evo).
Hell, if I can find an Evo IV style front clip that looks decent, it may end up on there.
