I think the EVO will last a good 150K mi... This is my third car with the 4G63... My second car was a 95 tsi talon. I got about 160K mi before experiencing crankwalk issues... And my first one was a 90 Eclipse... I got about 170K on it before the timing belt snapped and bent valves on #1 and #4... So yeah, 150K is the goal...

7) Find a good dealer in your area - don't spend a dime with the bad ones
8) Change the oil and filter every 3000 miles

Wait when should I change the oil?

I have high hopes for the longevity of mine, you've actually seen my car we've met up on Hempstead Tpke and DPA a couple times.

With light modifications the powertrain should easily last 150k+, the Galant VR-4s did and they were not nearly as built as this car is. Internally the motor is strong, the transmission is bullet proof, the rear is bullet proof at reasonable power levels and the transfercase seems to luck of the draw to some extent with some seemingly improperly shimmed from the factory.

My cars at 25k, passed that threshold just today and going strong luckily, stock clutch as well, recently changed out the driveline fluids for the first time, definitely stick with the stock diaqueen 90wt gear oil for the tcase, mine came out black but still a decent consistentcy after 24k in spirited miles. I would say staying with something similar to the stock clutch setup would greatly prolong the life of the driveline, only potential weak point with the tcase being a liability.

See you around this spring/summer Will.

let us know, guineapig, i mean turbowill. lol

i think luck has to do something with it as well, half of the people gets hit by some idiot, then they sell it. Half of the people sells it because of the transfer case, half of them sells it because family and most people don't have that much miles on it yet.

I have 36,000 miles now with a 03. i thinkn someone here had 60,000 miles within a year without any problems.

Ok people...did we buy our cars to sissy foot them around town, or to light the streets on fire!? Come on...drive the car like it is meant to be driven and enjoy it!! I know I do, but just stay on top of the regular oil changes and tuneups and it will last!!

I would say ur engine will last 100k + (depending on what upgrades u got, how u drive, who tuned, and how well do u take care of it).

The turbo should last longer.... but common things that ruin turbochargers:

Surge, Too much RPM, ingestion of debris ( meaning bad air filter / dirty oil), running too lean, and bad fuel.
Hope it gives you some insight!

As many may remember I noticed rust under my rear bumper support beams when the car was about two months old

Now - I see some rust starting to form inside my passenger front door

Hey I was thinking...I also have a 1987 Mitsubishi Starion. 80K miles. Besides the obvious wear items (clutch-brakes) and things that plain get old and rot (radiator and hoses) there's really nothing wrong with the car. Whoever had it before me obviously changed the oil, and took great care of it - and that's why it's still on the road. I saw a bunch of Starions before I bought this one, and they were BEAT, but still running.

The EVO should last a long time if properly taken care of. One thing to note. The transmission, TC, and rear LSD all call for specific fluids. Not a bad idea to change them according to "severe use" intervals.

It will last long (over 200k miles) if proper care/maintenance is done.

My dad had a 96 galant -200,000 miles no problems, i got rid of my 98 GSX with 90,000 miles on it (ran great just wanted an eVo) As long as u treat her good she will treat u good. Mitsu cars seem to last - minor problems aside!
