I need your opinion ASAP on this issue I got into with the Dealership!!!
They can't void your entire car's warranty, only the systems the modification directly affects( Magnusson-Moss ). You have 2 courses of action:
1) Find another dealership. This is the easiest and most hassle free course of action. Write a letter to the manager of the first dealership and explain why you will no longer be using them for any service or business.
2) Start b*tchin'. Complain to the manager and go as high as you need to. Also mention that your experience is being chronicled on this forum...

Ask them to put it in writing that your warranty was denied because of an aftermarket sunroof. Then take that documentation to MMNA and plead you case. There is no reason at all they should void your entire warranty due to a sunroof!
BUT, I can see them denying any work to the interior or find your noise, because it MAY be related to the sunroof. That's possible. But to void the entire warranty for the sunroof is rediculous, and illegal.
Best of luck! Maybe see another dealer if there is one around you.

This is all very true!!
BTW, my father has been a mechanic all his life and has worked at several dealerships.. when I told him about all these warranties being denied and why he simply stated "remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease." Meaning: don't let them walk on you.. make a stink and run the whole deal up the chain of management until someone listens.
Again, best of luck!

Specific areas of your warranty coverage may be voided because of your mod. Don't take the word of anyone at a car dealership during the sales process unless they are willing to back it up in writing and SIGN the paper.
The Magnusson-Moss(sp?) Act protects you from a dealer or mfg. from voiding warranty on items that would not be affected by the mod. (eg: they cannot void your engine warranty because of the sunroof mod) Also, your warranty generally cannot be voided for use of aftermarket parts unless the problem was specifically caused by that part.
You may be SOL on the windshield mounting problem if the dealer argues that it was caused by an improper mod.
Don't give up. Dig in and fight. Tell the service manager thet your warranty is fully intact unless the problem was caused by the sunroof. STICK IT TO THE MAN!

You might want to go back and ask to speak with the owner of the dealership.
I once had a problem with a Honda with the cruise control cable catching on something and holding the throttle wide open. When I brought it in for its 3rd fix I told the service manager to either give me a different type of cruise control or to just take it off and give me my money back (dealer installed option). He told me to %$#@ off in a more subtle way. I said I would just let the engine blow up next time. But then I asked either him or the receptionist that I wanted to see the owner.
I sat in the waiting room for 3 hours before I got to see the owner. I went into his office, shook hands and sat down. He just started to say, "So what can I do for you" when the service dept. guy literally came running in and said, "We're taking care of it." They put in a different type of cruise control.
Anyway, you may want to try that.

If the "sound" you are talking about is due to the custom sunroof install, then the dealership will not do anything to fix the problem. But they have to be 100% sure that the "sound" is coming from the custom sunroof, if so, i would go back to the ones that installed the sunroof and see if they can fix the problem.

I'd like to see a picture of your sunroof. Specifically, I'd like to see how large it is. One of the reasons I did not get a sunroof in my '03 Evo, was that they are so small front-to-back of the car. A potential reason they are so small front-to-back of the car is that there may be a structural member in the way, and they cannot make the sunroof "longer" without cutting into that member, and thus compromising the structural integrity of the car. It is possible that you had a "larger than stock" sunroof in the car, and the installer cut a structural roof member to make it all fit. I'm not saying this is what happened, but it is certainly possible. If this is what happened, then it would be very likely that this is the cause of your interior noise, and of course your warranty would not cover you on that issue. They cannot void your power-train warranty for that, however.
Can we see a pic of that sunroof from the top exterior of the car?

Open a case with MMNA and plead your case, ask for a case number right it down. They will hand it off to the most local dealership, and should take care of you. Once you have a case open the powers to be know about it. It usually goes to the local Mitsu Rep and service manager. My friend is one and he was sent my case number on my tranny issue and they told him to take care of.
The calmer you are the more they will work you, but I understand where you are coming from. The sad thing is I was at Mitsu today talking to some friends that work their. The people buying the Evo now, are going to have the hardest time getting anything done if they've modded their cars. The guys like me and a couple buddies that have had our cars the last year and a half they don't mess with us because we asked these questions when we bought them, now things are different.
