Test drives can be deceiving, as you are unlikely to be able to redline the car in every gear while the salesman is sitting in the passenger seat and the dealership's car has 12 miles on it.

If you track your Porsche, go find an EVO owner at your next event, and offer him that you test drive each other's cars for one run session. He will probably jump at the chance and then you get a proper test drive.

On the depreciation side, I actually believe that the Evo maintains its value better than the 911. Feel free to call me crazy but I've seen the Evo written up in CNN/Money as one of the slowest depreciating cars on the market. In fact here is the link:

http://money.cnn.com/2004/08/23/pf/a...alue/index.htm

From a personal experience I still can get most dealers to pay me 23,500 for my Evo if I choose to trade it in-- which is quite good considering I purchased the car for approx 29k two years back. It also helps being a major metro area marketplace. Good luck and test drive one would ya!

Well, maybe. The Porsche 911 had about the best resale value of any car short of a Ferrari. But resale value is not the point IMHO. I paid $26,100 plus tax and license for my new '04 RS. I can spend a fortune on mods and not come anywhere near the cost of a 911.

I'm thinking some of the pros you suggested earlier are very good reasons to get the EVO. Here are some others, such as all around one of the best or the best performance vehicle for it's price. No other vehicle can offer you so much, and ask for so little in return. The 911 you currently own, is a great vehicle, but it would be hard pressed to keep up with a properly driven EVO on a race course. Let's not forget that when brand new, your 911 cost 3X as much as an EVO costs today. Sure there are faults to the EVO, everycar has faults, but I think the positive things about the EVO outweigh the negative a good amount. The EVO is the jewel of the fluttering Mitsubishi nameplate.

I think if you come to a board to be swayed for a car purchase decision then you won't appreciate an Evo. To me the purchase of a car is all about the passion that it engenders in me. It's a personal thing and nothing anyone can say will convince me once I have made my decision. A car ether tickles me or not. If not then I don't buy it. If it does then rational thought doesn't enter into it and any well reasoned logic is wasted.

I always buy with my heart. Any car ownership can suck; whether because of relibility issues, comfort issues, or performance issues. If you buy with your head than you got nothing when these things happen. If you buy with your heart then at least it was fun for a while.

If it feels good, do it,
alan

ok, ok, ok I'll give my 2 cents..

buy the Evo, if you :

like Fast and Furious, (the MOvie)
like other dudes looking at u, no girls will ever notice
never driven any other Mitsu products (will spoil it)
like rental car type interior
like other dudes looking at u
like to see it in every fish hack mag everymonth and feel good about it
like other dudes looking at u

Keep your Porsche If you:

opposite of everything above.
like dudes and Chicks notice
keep the porsche!
LOL. because the same people obsessed with an EVO aren't equally obsessed with the STi? those "fast and furious" kids that can't have either? sounds about right to me.

Hmm, you are right, it is a mitsu, and god i wish it wasn't, but ive had no problems so far, i hope to god you start comparing the motors between the 2 because we all know that boxer STi is the marquis.

And i will agree(as everyone else has) the evo has nothing on a porsche aestetically, what does besides those italian beauties? surely not a STi. in other words, i would agree not to buy the EVO if you are concerned about descent chicks thinking your car is the coolest, because it won't happen.

But, to finish up my rant, quit being a troll bro.

Dennis: Is that even English? What do you mean by your post and we moderators are definately aware of your lack of valuable contributions. And yes, the Evo stock does hold its value well.

1999, 911 Carrera 2 owner here. It's been serving me as my only car which I only use on weekends. Live in NYC, use subway to work. For a while I've been eyeing on an Evo as a replacement.

Key factors I like on evo-

Performance
AWD (when it snows)
Trunk
Rear passenger space
Econobox stealth looks (when dewinged, which I intend- lets me park wherever, go to poor neighborhoods unnoticed)
Cons-

Need winter tires (when it snows, which I have no storage space living in NYC, may have to go all seasons)
Econobox looks / Chick appeal (definitely not as beautiful)
Suspension/Ride? (read it is rough, any evo owners driven a 911? I'm not sure until I try it. NYC potholes can be rough)
Depreciation (a New evo is definitely going to depreciate a whole lot more than my 99 C2, which I bought used last year, may consider buying a used Evo to fight depreciation)

Evo owners, convince me why I should get rid of the 911.
It's just about as rough. I'd advise you to drive one first. Your 911 will definitely be better in long trips. You will spend less on maintenance and insurance on the EVO.
There are tradeoffs. As for the chick magnet factor, I've found that people tend to think Porsche drivers are arrogant a**holes. As someone who knows better, I've found that the EVO has a female fan base (younger)

Do what I did-keep the 911 and get the EVO.
Or.. maybe a Lotus Elise?
